My perfect combination - great food and great atmosphere. Cozy alcove seats right next too the Chimney. Warm and inviting. Loved their signature soup. My husband like everything he order. I remember the warm bread. All of my memories about that evening are warm and cozy.

This restaurant has my full vote as they have great menu, limited but good stuff in its original and authentic way. The owner of the hotel/restaurant is around at all times and so humble that it shows in the food.

The Chimney Restaurant (TCR) is located within the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu. A very excellent restaurant with a emphasis of European, French and Russian cuisine. Boris Lissanevitch, famous Russian ballet dancer founded this restaurant in the mid 1980's, renamed the Hotel to Yak & Yeti from his earlier acquisition of the 1950s. The TCR stands on it own,... This is a great place to have dinner on a cool or cold evening. Get a table near the actual chimney and you won't regret it. It is cozy, warm, and delightful. The menu offers both French and Russian cuisines. Not many wines by the glass and the bottle offerings, while good choices, are expensive. If alcohol is your thing,... More

We went for a late dinner here and we had the whole place to ourselves. Limited wine selection by the glass but both the white and red options were good. We meet with the russian options, borsch and the chicken Kiev, both were fantastic. It's a great option if you are staying at Yak and Yeti or Anapurna Hotel which... More

This is a very well known restaurant in Yak and Yeti hotel. There is variety in menu; however, except for dal makhani, everything else is average.

The Chimney Restaurant is in the grounds of the Yak and Yeti hotel. We went there on the final night of a 3 week holiday (mainly in Bhutan) and to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We first visited the restaurant 30 years ago when it was a small wooden building - how things have changed! The restaurant is an elegant... More

Set in the Yak and Yetii hotel with it's lovely gardens, the Chimney Restaurant is atmospheric, intimate, with attentive service, delicious food and nice touches like in-house chocolates with coffee. It is pricy compared to other up market restaurants in Kathmandu, but worth it for a treat or a special occasion. It is warm in the winter, with a an... More

Description
At the time when the longest standing restaurant of its quality was created, the path to The Chimney was just a series of dirt lanes winding between stone houses in the jewel of the medieval Kathmandu Valley. In a fairytale land of not so long ago, the infamous Boris Lissanevitch established The Chimney. Boris' name alone conjures up legends of his unheeded extravagance and enigmatic adventures; famed Russian ballet dancer, entrepreneur, and entertainer of royalty, the tradition of the unprecedented Boris and his Chimney Restaurant continues to this day.

By night, the handcrafted, open, copper-shafted fireplace blazes and the vaulted ceilings of The Chimney are illuminated with the shadows of myths as tall as Everest. Boris' original recipes live on as his famous Borstch is served as well as the Smoked Bekti, Chicken a la Kiev, and the flaming baked Alaska Sagarmatha.

Traditional favorites are honored while an inspired international menu at The Chimney achieves distinction of its own. With a palette of fresh ingredients, is refined with masterful innovation. Savor Rack of Lamb with an Eggplant and Sesame Ragout and relish the piquant Tartare of Smoked Salmon with Wasabi, but be warned, new creations are always coming out to tempt you.
