The Oriental is a mixed thai-Chinese restaurant inside the Metropole hotel. In fact, you can order from its menu anywhere else in the hotel including the big terrace overlooking the green golf club. The menu is extensive and the food is quite good, but so many dishes on the menu and wine list were unavailable. Also, the staff did not... More

The food at this place is usually very nice, although it happens a bit too often that they are out of something or that the order is messed up somehow. Food quality also seems to depend on which of the cook's is in the kitchen. The soups are really nice, although a bit too spicy at times. The curries are,... More

I found a promotional card on an information office about the thai restaurant. Food was fine, however they ran out of soya sauce, chopsticks, and some side dishes. At the end, nor the waiters or the cashier were aware of the coupons they are promoting in the cards.

My fiancee and I ate here on Sunday evening and each enjoyed a delicious meal. The soups were the highlight of our visit! My fiancee had the Tom Kha Gai while I enjoyed the Tom Yum; both were exceptionally seasoned and spiced! For the mains, we had the grilled pork with chili and chicken red curry respectively. The mains do... More

My wife and I had actually been searching for Krua Thai (no longer there) when we came across Metropole Hotel and The Oriental. We had an excellent meal for a reasonable price. It wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive meal we had in Kampala, but it was one of the best. We chose to sit outside and enjoy the... More

I've had a few meals at the Oriental and have alwasy been lucky with my food.Especially the currys and Tom Yam soup are nice. Hoowever I don't agree with the "tastefully oriental" decor - I feel that the decors are tacky and the bad choise of music (Mariah Carey, etc. - very loud) makes it worse. Maybe it looks better... This place is incredibly difficult to find, it is NOT located in Garden City where all of the advertisements seem to say it is. I was craving Thai and we searched for an hour until we finally found it - at the Metropole Hotel. Every second of the search was worth it when we received our food! The Tom Kha... More

I ordered green curry with shrimp but was only told ten minutes later that they had no shrimp. The food that did arrive was mediocre -- not nearly as good as the former Krua Thai in Kampala. Because of the rain, we did not sit outside, which may have made the experience nicer.

The Oriental is in Metropole Hotel, but it is definitely NOT your typical hotel restaurant. The decor is tastefully oriental; and although it's an indoor venue, it has floor-to-ceiling sliding glass windows on three sides which open completely (protected by screens) so you still get the feeling of being close to the golf course with its equatorial lushness. The service... More

Service is always prompt and attentive, and the food is delicious with fair portion sizes. They even bring a small appetizer in addition to whatever you order. The atmosphere is classy and sometimes you can hear live piano music from the hotel lobby.
