I had dinner at the restaurant one evening and ordered one of the traditional shiro dishes and an Asmara beer. The food and service were good. I was there fairly early in the evening, so business was slow but other visitors and expatriates who I met spoke very highly of the restaurant.

One of my favourite choice, for traditional food. For sure best "gored gored" dish, but you can try shirò, zighini, and all other dishes. Good also for pizza and italian cuisine. Fair price, good service.

This was some decent traditional food. Though the hygyine maybe a bit suspect. And the dim lights dont help. The roast goat and beef were acceptable meals. Service as always in Eritrea was slow.

Was there several times and always had excellent local food. The place is usually busy so better to be there in advance or make a reservation. All dishes are spectacular.

When you are in Asmara this is an excellent choice for Eritrean national dishes such as Spriss, Zigni, of Shiro with Injera or Italian classics such as lasagne or various pasta dishes. The service is quick, friendly, and responsive and the wait staff speak English. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but the food is quite good and one... More

Friendly, decent value and palatable food make for an experience that is better than average but not very good. Service is on African time but not bad. I had steak & chips which was good...sure my onion soup may have been a packet doctored with caramelised onions, but it was tasty. Seemed popular with locals and lots eating enjerra with... More

We had a great dinner at the Blue Bird. We had traditional Eritrean food, served communal style on injera bread. The chicken was excellent and the service friendly. As an English speaking group, we were surprised and pleased that most of the staff spoke excellent English.

Five of us dined at the Blue Bird for lunch. The food was excellent--tasty, well prepared, and nicely presented (see photo). Because of that positive experience, we returned for dinner, but regretted the decision. That night, the three of us who'd eaten tibs zigny—and no one else—suffered a 24-hour bout of nausea and vomiting. Zigny is a stew which is... More

After living in Asmara for 2 years this was still my favourite restaurant. Their traditional food is the best in town and the service is not too bad. Becoming a little pricey, but worth every cent! Order the mixed meat plate.
