About
Situated in the very heart of the souks, this building is a hidden secret, only found by the discerning and curious visitor, where history is recorded in the delicate tracery of the stucco and skilfully carved wood. In the year 2000 , Marrakech Riads, a leading player in the restoration of the riads of Marrakech, brought Dar Cherifa back to life, and simultaneously unveiled a hidden treasure of the medina, the refined decor of this building recalling that of the Medersa Ben Youssef, jewel of the Saadian era (16th century) and one of the finest monuments of Marrakech. Renovated with the greatest care and attention to detail, with the participation of renowned craftsmen so as to maintain its authenticity and splendour, Dar Cherifa welcomes all visitors eager to meet new and interesting people. It is a real cultural venue, hosting regular exhibitions, workshops, concerts and events. This inimitable space draws one into a meditative state of mind and heart. Everyone fortunate enough to visit this building says that they breathe an atmosphere of peace and serenity the minute they cross the threshold. The mention of Moroccan culture immediately implies Moroccan cuisine, and what more beguiling setting than this pure and refined interior for sampling a cuisine abounding in cultural exchange; a subtle blend of sweet and sour, the inheritance of Berber, Jewish and Arab-Andalucian influences. Enjoy!

We were shown this restaurant during a tour with Abdul, there was no pressure to eat there, but we liked the appearance of the restaurant so much we returned later in our visit. Finding it is part of the pleasure, you have to plunge into back alleys until you find a door at the end of the maze. Once inside there are low tables around an open courtyard, with beautifully carved doors at either end. The atmosphere is relaxed and soothing, with friendly waiters that made us feel very welcome.
The food was great, the lamb with apricot and walnuts were fantastic.
After lunch we explored the roof top terrace, a nice space with some tables open to the sun and others under cover.
I’d recommend this as our favourite place to eat in Marrakesh (so far!)

We 4 Canadians enjoyed our first delicious supper in Marrakech in this wonderful riad tucked away in the old medina, and what a great find it was. The decor was reminiscent of the riads of so many years ago with lovely and intimate table settings. The service was excellent and enthusiastic. We were especially impressed to learn that every meal or food item had to be retrieved up at least 3 flights of stairs. The wait staff were indeed speedy and very fit. The Moroccan tagines served were piping hot and mouth watering with all fresh and local ingredients. The delightful tea service provided for us with great enthusiasm by our excellent waiter Omar left us with a memorable impression of this evening and restaurant.

Great ambiance and very good service. Omar was very attentive and entertaining, taking mint tea pouring to new heights. Food was tasty, though portion for the veg tajine could be bigger. Homemade cake was top. More vegetarian options would be welcome.

We went here with high expectations but unfortunately they were not fulfilled.
First, let's say that the room is fantastic with beautiful decor. But unfortunately that is not enough. We chose a Moroccan appetizer that sounded exciting but turned out to be four dry deep-fried knots on a dry salad bed with a string of balm vinegar on top. Not very exciting.
For main course we had one tagine with meatballs and another with chicken in a lemon scented sauce. The first one with the meatballs was very ordinary, nothing special at all. The chicken was tasty but since it was not served with anything more, the dish felt very bland. We had intended to end the dinner with a dessert on the restaurant's rooftop terrace but as the food was such a disappointment we went to a much nicer place and drank coffee and had dessert there instead.
We can mention that the service staff was nice and let us change tables because with my height I could not sit at the low table we first got. Unfortunately, the service broke down at the end when a bottle of water we never got appeared on the bill. When we pointed this out, we were not believed. This is not how you treat your guests.

According to my experience is far to be the sophisticated restaurants it try to seem, it’s a very touristic place with huge lack of organization on managing orders and people.
Here what happened to us:
- Firstly they bring us to a table in the terrace in open air (it was freezing) we asked to change for a table inside and the waiter said to start to order and to give him two minutes to arrange a new table. Then he literally ignored us for about 40 minutes even if there were some available tables inside. We had to go inside to ask again to be pleased.
- The appetizer we ordered was finished and the waiter told us that after 50 minutes of waiting. (In the final check we would had found it anyway it, and we would had to remember we hadn’t eat it)
- One of our two principal meals was cold.
I have to say that they give us their excuses offering us a the, but also our two closest tables received it, so I think that too many excuses in an only evening is a signal of a very poor service.
It’s a pity, because the location is beautiful: putting some more efforts in making up a better customer experience, it could become a very good place.

I've been to this restaurant 3 times over the past 4 years.
This time I did not enjoy my experience. The atmosphere was flat and the music was way too intense - only religious music. It felt like they were catering to those less experienced with Marrocan culture. The service was not up to standard. I was told to keep my knife and fork for the main course - then had to ask for cutely after my food was already on the table. The 5 salad starter was lacklustre and flavourless - as was the chicken and ginger main which had too much fruit in it and hardly any chicken. It was also too salty .
I will say the beef shank was cooked very well but you can get a far better experience elsewhere. The only thing going for this place is a romantic setting (not romantic if the service/ food isn't on point). I will not visit again.

Beautiful setting however the food was more than disappointing. We truly truly do not understand this rating. We chose the briouates as a starter which are essentially pastry with very little filling. We then chose the chicken tagine which sums the food up - the meat was dry and very little taste. Total disappointment, and honestly if you read this do pass, this restaurant is not worth it, nor for the food nor the price (it’s expensive !!)

We went for lunch on Dec 31. The staff were very busy preparing for New Year’s Eve. I had made a reservation the day before but our table was not ready when we arrived.
Food:
The food was good but we expected more after checking the reviews. The chicken pastilla wasn’t the best and it had some chicken bones.
Service:
The staff were nice but they were very busy with New Year’s Eve preparations, which made their service slow and they sometimes forgot to bring what we asked for.
Ambiance:
The restaurant is in a Riyad. The decor is average compared to other Riyads we’ve been to.

It was the best experience EVER. It was our first time eating traditional moroccan food and the kefta was amazing. Diop (the waitress) is the sweetest, we asked for more bread and she even went to the bakery to get more fresh bread for us! 10/10 would recommend, also the location is beautiful 😍

We finally found this spot on our second trip to Marrakech after failing to locate it the first time round. It is tucked away and you have to ring the bell or knock on the door which otherwise is shut giving the impression the place is closed.
But once you enter you are transported to a beautifully serene sixteenth century courtyard with a selection of friendly birds chirping away from the rooftop.
We ordered a coffee and a slice of the homemade orange cake which came recommended from our Riad. We were not disappointed. It was delicious. And enormous, meaning we struggled to eat anything else for the rest of the day. Definitely on the list for the next visit to Marrakech.

Absolutely a perfect dinner!
We only have one day in Marrakech, and after googling a couple of Moroccan restaurants, we choose Dar Cherifa restaurant. Thankfully we chose the right one. We ordered Lamb Tajine with walnuts and prunes, Moroccans Pastel, Moroccans coffee, and Saffron Creme Brulé for the dessert. The waiter told us all of it is the traditional food of Morocco.
The lamb was perfectly cooked. The meat is so tender you can peel it from the bones. We liked the pastel too. Inside the pastel, we can see some rice noodles and monkfish covered with pastry. As a side dish, they served bread & marinated black & green olives. We especially like the olives. It was really good! We chose Creme Brulé saffron as our desert. The scent and taste of the saffron really stand out. It was the perfect ending for our dinner in Marrakech.
The restaurant itself is also pretty. It richly reflects a traditional Morrocan house. And the service is very excellent! Our waiter, Rachid, did a very good job of serving us. He explained a little bit about the food, Morrocan culture, and where to go when we need to buy souvenirs.

After several hours enjoying the intensity of the souks and everything they have to offer, the opportunity to relax in the calm and beautiful Dar Cherifa was perfect.
The service was warm, friendly and professional, and the food fantastic. The special house smoothie was very popular, and the Moroccan salads a delightful combination of flavours, as were the lemon chicken and lamb with apricot tagines. The beautifully presented fruit pastilla, drizzled with chocolate and butterscotch sauce, was loved by the children, whilst the adults had aromatic Moroccan coffee.
Before coming to Marrakesh, we had an idyllic idea of a lovely meal in a stunning riad, just a side-street away from the bustling Medina crowds: we found it in Dar Cherifa.

This restaurant is in a very attractive building. I don't think the terrace is up to much but the down-floor patio restaurant is very pretty and I'm sure is beautifully lit at night. We were there for lunch.
With regard to the food, we thought it was very average. The first course which was a Selection of Briouates were tasteless compared to other restaurants we had been to. And the second courses were not anything special. We were a bit disappointed having read some good reviews.

Our server Mohamed went above and beyond to make sure our experience was 5 stars. He explains all the dishes we inquired about in great detail in English as well as made some great recommendations. The quality of the vegetarian couscous and the Berber taglines was great. Mohamed helped us to creat photos and videos of the experience. After dinner, he gave us a tour off the building.
