Peter Dale (owner and chef) came out to greet us. Wait staff were friendly and helpful in deciding wines and menu. I had the Cod which fast a big flaky piece with wonderful flavor. The others had the scallop special and all raved about it....More

I hope you'll make it back again soon! We first opened as a wine bar and restaurant in 2007, so it's essential that our staff has extensive knowledge of our full wine list and the talent to guide you to the perfect choice of food...More

The night that we ate at the National downtown Athens was very busy. We managed to scope out seats near the bar at the window and shared appetizers and each had a drink. The food was flavorful, original and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was loud...More

Been back several times, always eat at the bar, try a new wine (they're all good so far), and get the sampler platter and the okra chickpea salad. Filling, delicious, not much more to say about it. If you like hummus, definitely come here. Hummus...More

Beautiful restaurant in a historic old building in downtown Athens, Ga with marble floors, awesome windows (some being stained glass) but most importantly great food, great service and great pricing.

OK, so we are transplanted northerners and didn't know what to expect of southern cuisine. The National and a handful of other places in Athens are outstanding -- always something unusual on the menu, never stuffy, good wine selections and for us, walkable. What's not...More

Great food. Reservations recommend on weekends. Linen napkins. Service staff was excellent! Arrive early to find parking. Save room for dessert.

Unfortunately designated parking downtown is hard to come by, but there are metered spots on our street as well as a parking deck on Washington St and paid parking on weekends behind the Chamber of Commerce.

Absolutely delicious falafel, not over cooked nor greasy. The pita bread has flavor, and the side fries and salad were made with love. The ketchup had pomegranate flavor which was totally new to me, I just loved the bold richness to it. The lemonade-pomegranate was...More

I was passing through Athens, so I asked my foodie niece (a UGA alum) what the best place to eat clean was. She texted back "The National!" I think it was the exclamation point that got me because I was already in the parking lot...More

This restaurant is one of the best in downtown Athens. The restaurant is conveniently located and a great size for the feel of an intimate restaurant. The service is great and the servers knowledgeable and helpful. My only complaint is that the menu is limited,...More

Description
Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner daily; our bar also remains open for coffee and tapas during the day 2:30 - 5pm. The idea behind The National is simple: to provide a casual neighborhood gathering spot reminiscent of the bars and cafés we’ve enjoyed on travels to Europe. Mediterranean inspired food and wine is served for lunch and dinner in the dining room and throughout the day at the bar. While our menu points to culinary traditions from abroad, we value our local farmers and our dishes reflect the changing seasons in Northeast Georgia.
