Ok the good: fish was fresh, service was prompt and pleasant, atmosphere comfortable and the music was reggae. The not so good: sushi rice was dry, boarderline stale, the ponzu was spicy (the main reason I will never go back), the price was ridiculous (but its aspen)...so sushi in the landlocked mountains probably the wrong call.

On our last trip to Aspen we ate at Kenichi as usual and found it disappointing with regards to both the food and service. This time however both the food and service were back to their usual first rate standards. Loved the firecracker shrimp and the pot stickers as well as the fabulous sashimi. Sat in one of the two... Although lacking the glitz of nearby Matsuhisa, Kenichi is my preferred spot for Japanese and sushi in Aspen. The menu offers a nice variety of traditional sushi and sashimi, along with inventive rolls. The main menu has ample noodle and non-seafood options for those who prefer steak or chicken. The staff is attentive, the scene is lively (but not overwhelming),... More

Excellent Sushi, very cool place to hang out and watch who comes and goes. Will most likely need reservations any day of the week in season.

Very dissatisfied with my experience at Kenichi. Very limited sushi roll menu, bland edamame, teriyaki chicken and miso cod were good, but double the price of any Japanese restaurant in NYC or LA. Rolls were OK, but when my young son asked for a shrimp and crab roll (not a menu item), he was told "NO!" We never experienced that... More

Great local spot! The sushi was outstanding and the service was great. Tried Fried ice cream for the first time which was delicious. Definitely get the fried ice cream.

I visited with my family (including one child) for dinner. The atmosphere is lovely and would make a great date spot. We received a window seat and were pretty happy. My favorite part of the meal was the brussel sprouts - Excellent!!! We ordered a 2nd serving! The sushi was OK, but were still hungry. Passed on ordering more due... More

Nice atmosphere. Good for date night. Sushi is fresh, and rolls are made nice and tight. Sushi chefs are friendly. Our rolls were slightly skimpy on fish. Rainbow rolls had thin slices of fish, not as meaty as Denver restaurants. Had a saketini that was rather flavorless, even though it was described as containing cucumber and ginger flavors.

If you want to drop $200 and leave hungry and unsatisfied, boy is this the place for you. This place used to do good sushi and I understand paying a premium for fresh fish in pricey Aspen and at 10000 feet. What I can get over is the $50 carafe of mediocre sake that was only a third full, the... More
