Parking: We walk the two blocks from home, but street parking can be difficult. Use the side streets on the north side for easier parking. Ambiance: Tile floor, wood chairs, plain set tables - nothing special there. Booths are pretty comfortable if a bit dark. Service: Only OK - sometimes they're good but most often they're indifferent and lack any... More

Service was extremely slow and poor. Had to chase waitress to get order in she came back to say they were out of my 1st choice (salmon) ... I gave her another (buttermilk chicken) ... she came back again and they were out of that, too. I settled for garlic chicken. Then after waiting half an hour for a salad... More

I'm still giving 4 our of 5 for this dinner despite some of the misses. Since our last review we have been back twice and as a recent reviewer noted there is a name change to Bo's California Cuisine though the owner-chef remains the same and the credit card receipt still comes out as Bistro 1491. This review encompasses a... More

When the current owner-operators took over the long-time North Berkeley institution known as Walker's Pie Shop, they named it Bistro 1491, refreshed the dingy interior, and revamped the menu, offering reasonably priced seasonal and classic American dishes. Now the same team has changed the name to Bo's, but still offers the same high quality, impeccably prepared and personably served meals... More

Hosted a large group of YMCA Members last Tuesday night. The fpood here is very good. Diners had a choice of NY steak, salmon, duck confit and a delicious veggie Mushroom dish. Salads were big and tastey...and ice cream for dessert. The owner and staff do the best they can. Our group numbered 42 so it was a bit of... More

I haven't had anything I didn't like. Brunch is good and the duck hash is one of my favorites! We had potato leek soup that was delicious and prices are reasonable. The place is busy on weekends so plan accordingly.

dinner for 3 mid-week. service was very good. decor is simple and done nicely. they have booths or normal tables/chairs and even a combo of both. 2 connected rooms, one looks into the kitchen. we ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken that has a beautiful pan-fried batter. Bistro 1491 uses thigh meat which was to our liking as we prefer the... More

We went for dinner in conjunction with a local promotion. The decor is nice and the restaurant was clean. The servers were courteous and friendly. The Good: We really enjoyed: Sticky ribs small plate (two ribs, very tender and flavorful) Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and apple small plate. Nice selection of beer and some table wines by the glass... More

A good place to eat breakfast. Nothing remarkable but all was good. I had the french toast which the menu described to be different than others. It was basically the same that would be served in almost any restaurant. The bacon was wonderful.

When I think of the thousands of restaurants competing within any given metropolitan area, I wonder how they make a living. I guess by establishing a reputation, a following, and good reviews. This is such a place. I can only give four stars because of certain failings, including a very small selection of dishes on the menu, but don't dismiss... More
