Interesting decor. Excellent food and service. We enjoyed a special family dinner (with our two teens) here. Everything we ate was delicious. (Truffle Mac and cheese, croque monsieur, filet mignon, salmon tartare, chocolate variance. The service was attentive. The atmosphere was intimate: old-world classic. It...is expensive, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone we encountered at The Jefferson was most hospitable. We were there on a Saturday night. Arrived at 7 and easily got a table, but it was also a happening spot. I highly recommend.More

I had never been to Quill, the restaurant/bar, just off of the lobby of The Jefferson Hotel, until we stayed at the hotel for our first time in March. We had dined at the main restaurant, also off of the lobby before, but just never...had made it to Quill. We had arrived a bit before check-in, and our suite was not yet ready, so we handed off our luggage, and headed to Quill. We were seated at a table, in front the bar, and I had the wine list in-hand quickly. It was after the lunch crowd, and Quill was starting to empty out. Initially, the bartender seemed disinterested, and rather aloof, but soon warmed - a bit. We explored their B-T-G wine selection, which while rather short, did have some interesting wines. Since we were dining off-property (though a bit later than our usual), we kept the food orders light: Croque Monsieur w/ Virginia Ham, Gruyère Cheese and Mornay Sauce on Sourdough Bread - This was very, very good, and for being in Washington, DC, and not San Francisco (where we were headed, after some meetings for my wife), the Sourdough was quite good! Cheese Plate w/ Seasonal Fruit Chutney and Farm House Crackers - a very nice selection of Cheeses, and rather large - though we shared both dishes, there was still some of the cheese left over. Other than the slightly standoffish service, all was good, and our room was ready, before we had finished. The next day, my wife had a lunch meeting with a colleague at Quill, and I stopped in, sitting at the bar, to sample more of the B-T-G wines. The bartender was a young lady this time, and was anything but standoffish. She welcomed me, and spent a fair amount of time talking about the wine list. Even though she was working at a busier time, than the bartender the day before, she was just great, and highly efficient. She just seemed to enjoy her job more. Now Quill is a restaurant, plus a bar, and in the evenings, a bit of a lounge, as there is a grand piano in one room. There is al fresco dining, but I did not experience that seating, on either visit. It has the feel of a “gentlemen’s city club,” and except for the décor being Jeffersonian, and not Victorian, could well be in London in Mayfair, or Knightsbridge. There are lots of dark woods, but the overall lighting is OK. The rooms feel comfortable, and so did sitting at the bar. A very nice “lobby bar,” and I am glad that I returned, so that the less than stellar service and hospitality, was not my lasting impression - the interaction with the second bartender erased that from my mind.More

This is a special place to meet a friend and have a great meal. Very welcoming and friendly. I am vegan and the chef was eager to adjust the choices to meet my needs.

The drinks were creative and expertly prepared, the service was top notch. The food was of excellent quality. The clientele on the evening we were there was geriatric and stuffy. I don't know if this is the norm, but we could have cared less due...to the enjoyable meal we had!More

The bartenders were very friendly. Peaches was allowed to remain in the bar while I had dinner, a perfectly cooked salmon. Made my evening.

This place just has it. They aren’t famous for great cocktails but everything just feels glamorous and special here. Good selections and just a great feel.
