This was our first time here. The place was full with a high noise level. The good: Some of the food was spectacular: the nobu sea bass in particular and my wife’s truffle pasta. The wine list while small was very well thought out. The...greeter person was able to reseat us at a table more to our liking without any fuss. The bad: Some of the food was disappointing: the whole chicken and the chocolate soufflé. The ugly: the waiter taking our order told us that there was an additional item on the menu, the truffle pasta, but didn’t bother to tell us that there was a $35 up charge; the whole meal was way too much food.
The bill came to $300 before tip including some cocktails and a few glasses of wine. The service was spotty at times. I guess you have to do everything at least once but I can’t imagine a second trip.More
Wow. We have heard about this restaurant for years as one of the best 10 in DC. Finally made it and it is all and more!!
Every course is absolutely fresh and perfectly prepared. We are very experienced diners and we need to say that...this place is the best restaurant we have ever been to ! Hopefully, you will get Kendal as your knowledgeable server. She will explain each dish perfectly for you.
And she is very personable.
Definitely put this place on your bucket list!More
After trying for several months, I finally got a reservation for this restaurant and dined here this past Saturday with my husband. We had a menu with 10 options and for two people, we were able to choose 4 of those options. Along with those...four, you also get bread and dessert. The bread came with cheese and was delightful. Our first dish was icecream and caviar. The salty and sweetness combined together well. Our second dish was the oxtail birria which was tortillas dipped in a sauce. They were nice, though, compared to our other dishes, I found it underwhelming. My husband really liked it, though. Our third dish was a housemade tofu with some vegetables and dipped into a soy sauce. It was delicious. Our last dish was a sea bass with a potato puree. All the food was amazing. The waitress was pleasant. For a higher priced meal, they have a more laid back style and dress code. The staff was more underdressed than the patrons were. The restroom had a lot of nice signs to look at. What brought this restaurant down a star was the dessert. We ordered the soufflé and the chef messed it up twice, so we had to choose a different one. The 5 star rating went from a 5 to a 4 after a messy dessert service, but I'd definitely love to go back here and give them a try again especially since they change their menu frequently. Aaron Silverman is certainly in the right business.More
We were excited to finally make it to Rose’s to celebrate a big birthday. Having heard much of its reputation, we were surprised by the far from luxurious patio setting. The Covid precautions were impressive; that was reassuring.
The pris fixe menu had a first...listing and a champagne with a price in parentheses. Our server asked if we’d like the appetizer and we agreed. He asked if we wanted champagne. After hearing that it “comes with the appetizer”, we asked for it. The tiny scoop of caviar was so small, my wife asked if this was for both of us. It was. Next, half way through the touted lychee salad, my wife asked if I could taste the lychee, I realized I could not. We queried a server. Horrified, he brought two small bowls of canned lychees.
Despite advance notice of it being a big birthday, this was forgotten by Rose’s. Later that night, I got my bill online. The appetizer + tax + tip added about $60. Perhaps partly our misunderstanding, but the deal was not presented clearly. I’ve twice contacted Rose’s about the above. No response. This is not a restaurant worth raving about.More
Rose’s summer menu is absolutely delicious. Service is perfect. Parking easy across the street with ParkMobile app. Consider skipping wine and going for the divine summer drinks including something called a Banana Slushy. Don’t forget your mask. Temps taken on arrival.
My daughter wanted to go here for her birthday dinner. She said we had to wait in line outside by 4pm to talk to the hostess who comes out at 5pm and will then give you a time as a reservation. Lucky for us, we...were not too far back in line and she asked if we wanted to stay and eat then (at 5pm) Yes! we were happy. We went to our table upstairs. Everything is very charming. We decided to do the Chef's Special for $89/each. All three in our party had to do it. It was a wise choice. I believe there were about 9 courses. You share the dishes. Since I am gluten free I was reluctant to try the special, but our server was very helpful and brought out a few alternatives. Most of the dishes I could eat, but the alternatives were also amazing. Have to say the Lychee salad was a favorite of us all. Each and every dish offered such a unique mix of flavors . I will be spoiled forever. The wine was a bit expensive for us old suburbanites from Pennsylvania, but to be expected in a large city. We were there for nearly 3 hours. Normally, my husband would have been bouncing off the walls with that length of time, but he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Even a trip to the bathroom was a delight. So cute.More
It has been a while since I was last here and they continue to serve amazing food! The pork and lychee salad continues to he my favorite thing here and I am not alone. It's been on the menu forever and with good reason!
They...do amazing things here and our party had 1-2 of everything on the menu!! There wasn't a dish we didn't love (I don't like fish but they all do) and the flavors continue to be fresh, interesting, and new. The pastas continue to be excellent and true stars among the other dishes.
Even the desserts, which normally are terrible because they want to make vegetables into desserts (why?!?) were quite good. There was a coconut ice cream, a popcorn creme brulee, and more! They did have an eggplant dessert (come on guys!) that we didn't eat because that's not a dessert!
We also wish they would abandon the no reservations policy, this forcing you to go on taskrabbit and pay someone to stand in line for you. I suppose they are better job creators then Trump, but I digress...More
If you are in the mood for some of the best fried chicken, fried catfish or beef brisket you’ve ever had in your life, then head to Rose’s Luxury. The lychee salad was an amazing combination of sweet, crunch, chew and taste. Only “negative” I...had is that I found the prices of the alcohol a bit on the high end.
That said, I would come back again!More
