Near some of the most expensive restaurants in the DuPont Circle area is this very small jewel. They change their specials everyday, and all of them are excellent. Very good daurade, vegetables and crab cakes. Their Friday steak and French fries is famous. Their prices very affordable. Very few tables, nice service and the owner quite remarkable. It is not... While the sandwiches are solid, especially the pastrami, the real stars of this lunch place are the daily specials written on the blackboards (one out front and one behind the counter). Each day has a different theme whether it's Indian, creole, Mexican etc. all good. The focus here is on the food and quick service, not the decor. A great... More

I had forgotten about C.F.Folks because I long ago left the company that was right in the immediate neighborhood. I couldn't resist going in when I passed it by chance today and was immediately reminded of how good a spot it is. They have a basic menu of lunch stuff and usually about a dozen meticulously-prepared and original daily specials.... More

I have had the pleasure of eating lunch at C.F. Folks for (I am embarrassed to admit it) over 20 years. I have eaten lunch here almost daily in recent years. There are daily specials, and none of the cuisines, for example, Cajun and Italian, fails to satisfy. The steak frites on Friday are among the best I have had... More

It is always a pleasure to eat here. Good choices, local homey type of atmosphere and almost always great food. It sometimes can be very crowded so eating here may be an issue. Also at a recent visit the food was great, but the quantity was a little sparse given the price. Always a good choice for lunch unless you... More

Had lunch here on a Thursday afternoon and it got very crowded very quickly, so make sure you come early to beat the lunchtime crowd. Had the #5, corned beef sandwich, and an ice tea for $10. Don't bother waiting for the check when you're done, just go to the cashier to pay. They politely asked us to leave when... More

Descriptors: unpretentious and delicious. A lunch counter with outdoor seating and some very good special from around the globe. Last time I had a duck and chicken ragout (balanced and rich) over egg noodles, with a salad and garlic bread. All for $12. If I didn't live and work across town, I'd be here every most every day.

If in Washington DC (DuPont Circle area) on a Monday-Friday, this is your destination for lunch--fantastic, incredible value. If you plan to make this your main meal, you can plan your budget accordingly for breakfast and lunch. For example, last Friday for less than $20.00, I had their daily seafood special which included -- grilled swordfish served with a mango... More

The place feels like a truck stop, except the diners are all wearing suits, since it's a popular lunch spot in the middle of downtown D.C. Had the braised beef entree which was very tasty. Feels very old-fashioned.

However it is right next door to a famous steak restaurant. The menu always changes and they use nothing but the freshest ingredients. Their lunch business is always busy.
