I dropped in while nearby so I grabbed a spot at the bar after about a ten minute wait for a spot on Saturday night about 7 pm. I was actually looking to pass time while waiting for a reservation nearby. I had half a...More

This is a busy, atmospheric restaurant in the heart of Georgetown offering great food at decent prices. Each time we visited recently the place was busy from early evening though we got seated without any problems. There is a good menu of main dishes, salads...More

We were seated in the open air window at the front of this Georgetown restaurant, watching people stroll by (and a fat, city rat that frightened a young woman into shrill screaming as it raced by outside our window--it's DC, you get used to it!)...More

I was here with a few friends and thought it was a cool looking place, being that it's over 100 yrs old. It looks it, but in a good way. The food was typical bar food for the most part, but it was good. They...More

I had been told to come to Georgetown for ribs during a one night stop over, so I decided to visit this place on my own and had ribs and beer at the bar as that didn't require a reservation. I loved the atmosphere and...More

Great atmosphere in this place. We'd planned only to go in here for a drink when it started pouring. We ended up having drinks and appetizers. Service with a smile and a sense of humor!

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
