Awesome food and the raw bar, amazing if you like oyster's on the half shell. We had the Barcat Oysters, harvested in the Chesapeake Bay, sweet and juicy. We also had the Hoisin-Glazed Salmon that was out of this world.

I like the atmosphere in Gergetown and J Paul's is my favorite restaurant. The staff is really friendly and professional and the food is excellent! I like the relaxed and informal feel of the restaurant. Seafood is great and don't forget to try the crab cake, a real speciality!

We went for dinner on a Tuesday night. When we arrived at 6:30, the place was empty and they put as the worst table in the place next to the server station. While I was with two teenage kids, we we were quite well dressed, so I saw no need to shove us in the corner. I should have asked... More

Is it a bar that serves food or is it a restaurant that has a bar ?....whatever the service was good at the front desk and at the table , the food was a good standard and decent value for money ...would return

Great atmosphere and very friendly bartenders. Drinks are a little pricey, but good. Nice selection of craft beer. Really good raw bar.

This place always delivers. Fantastic attentive server. Great shrimp from the raw bar and crab cakes. It doesn't get better than J Pauls in Georgetown !

This is a big, classic American bar with very balanced brunch, lunch, dinner and pub fare. My wife and I had dinner and enjoyed our selections from the special Valentines prix fixe 3 course menu. My wife had Curried Mussels- nice size shellfish with well flavored broth, NY Strip and Hot Lava cake for dessert- which she enjoyed with plenty... More

Stopped by for lunch while shopping in Georgetown. Unfortunately it was the most disappointing meal of the weekend. Service was mediocre. Hamburgers were under cooked and low quality.

We had a brunch here with friends for a birthday. I loved the atmosphere - nice brown colors, and in particularly the bar area looks stunning. The food was OK - I was not the biggest fan of their menu options. I had the Mason-Dixon plate with 2 poached eggs, ham (mistake because I chose the shrimp option, but oh... More

A wednesday night, a few people in the restaurant, crab cakes were perfect, wings a bit too dry, mashed potatoes average.Waitress said there was no creme brullee and gave us the receipt. The first time in my life I felt pushed out of a restaurant. I was here a few times a few years ago and it was excellent. What... More

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
