Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Lively and fun atmosphere with excellent service. Particularly enjoyed the beef tartare, Salade Verte, mussels, and husband said the trout amandine was one of the best fish dishes he ever had. Crème brulee was also fantastic. Reasonable prices for the quality...of food.More

I love this restaurant except for how hard it is to get a reservation. Food is excellent, waitstaff harried, but friendly. Gougeres are the best I've had anywhere. Salmon and steak tartar were both excellent as was the mushroom tart. Plenty of food. For $28...the carafe of red wine was just fine.More

The food is comfortable basic tasty brassiere food, not extra fancy but well done, the wine list and wines were really good, and the deserts are oversized, but wonderful too. the Service is excellent and attentive without being over your shoulder

We went in for a small late dinner after our small venue concert on October. 30th. When we inquired on the charcuterie we voiced an interest on expanding to include cheeses and fruit. Our server suggested some items and we went with his recommendation. It...was absolutely perfect and our service was just right for us, not too much not too little. Would highly recommend Francisco and his recommendations!More

TLDR: Don’t go. A recent visit here transported me instantly to the banks of the Seine at a café in St. Michel, the armpit of Paris that no self-respecting Français would be caught dead in. A place where cooks serve meals out of plastic bags...dunked in boiling water, and where fat Americans demand butter for their baguettes and ice for their Cokes. All the while surrounded by noisy streets and attended to by apathetic waitstaff. Le Diplomate is not a French restaurant. It does not aspire to learn la cuisine française as Julia Child did. It is a food façade, exuding the type of half-assed DC restaurateurism that has become pervasive in our city, more theatre than anything else. It tries to emulate the greats, but falls flat on its face. Four (yes, four!) hostesses could barely bother to look up from their phones to say hello. Music blared from a speaker above our table. Neighboring diners were inebriated by the time we arrived and demanded shots for dessert, as if we’d visited some sort of grown-up frat house. It was an evening even the food couldn’t make up for. Our waitress fumbled when we asked questions about the seemingly classic menu, and both dishes were served swimming in sauce. Had hurricane Hollandaise blown through the kitchen completely unbeknownst to us? We’ll never know. I’m sure Le Dip had a heyday when it made authentic food that was to be savored. Unfortunately, that time has come and gone.More

We've tried to visit this restaurant in the past, but couldn't make it happen. We reserved a table for brunch on our first full day in DC. It did not disappoint. The French toast was incredible. I love French toast (see many of my other...reviews). This one compared well with the best of the best. The apples were excellent.More

Reservations a must! Enjoyed sparkling wine and foie gras. For dinner I had moulles frites and my husband steak frites. Our meals were delicious but the bread basket was spectacular. Freshly baked and a nice variety (plus ample quantity). Yum. For desert we shared the...pot de creme (chocolate). My oh my!More

Worth the wait (several weeks) for a reservation Great French food Great service Brunch for 4 with non alcoholic drinks - $100 which in our opinion is reasonable given the quantity and quality of food and drink. The coffee and bread basket that begins the...meal is wonderful Entrees were hot and tasty Our waiter, Carlos, was excellent Street parking can be tough Suggest using an online parking app to find a close by parking spotMore

A fantastic French culinary experience. The ambiance made us almost believe to be in Paris, what a great treat. The staff was very knowledgeable, and friendly. The food was so authentic, we had the escargot and the mules with frites, just delicious. We will be...back for sureMore

You don’t need a reservation for the bar. But the restaurant is quite popular, so seating might not be immediately available.

Try calling the restaurant directly ... (202) 332-3333. Our server, Lauren really made our visit special. If she is working I would try to get her to take care of your group.
