While in town for a convention, my boyfriend and I wandered onto 8th Street over from Eastern Market. As it was late in the afternoon, we unfortunately missed lunch. Luckily, Senart's was open with a bar menu available. The wooden interior lent some charm, as did the skylight in the bar area. However, there was a musty smell, though with... More

This is a very good place for drinks and/or dinner prior to an evening parade at the Marine Barracks, or just for drinks/dinner. I mention the parade because invariably, timeliness of service becomes an issue. We recently met another couple for dinner and it couldn't have worked out better. Great food (two short ribs, salmon, fried oyster sandwich); prompt, friendly... More

Great food! Awesome hamburgers that are some of the best ever. But the chef is always trying new things. The brussel sprouts with bacon are divine- order them if on the menu when you go. Nice beer selection.

While on the hunt for Happy Hour oysters in DC, we discovered two possibilities within blocks of the Eastern Market Metro Station; Hank’s Oyster Bar and Senart’s Oyster Bar. We decided to try Hank’s out first. Our experience there was anything but welcoming due to inconsistent seating policies. We ended up leaving without being seated. Feeling a bit dejected, we... I organized a large informal party at Senart's during happy hour, and overall, I was disappointed with the service at this oyster place. I had never been here, nor do I think anyone in my party had, which is the exact reason why we went. It was kind of a trek from where everyone works and lives, but that's why... More

We (my husband and I) chose this restaurant on a whim. We wanted some seafood in a quaint, local spot. The building just looks cozy and the street is vibrant and fun. Inside of the restaurant the fireplace was lit and it wasn't too crowded for 6 pm on a Saturday. We kept commenting on the atmosphere and look of... More

I've been to this restaurant several times and each time I leave thinking it could be better. The service is a bit distracted and indifferent and I never get the feeling they are happy I'm dining there. Service on the slow side but the food was very good with the exception of the Malpeques oysters which were small and tasteless.... More

Love the ambience of this place - has that darkened library feel. More importantly the food is REALLY good. I had the short rib - falling off the bone and superbly seasoned. Also, I had a salad with the freshest of greenings and the lightest of lemon zesty dressings...I love good mixed greens so this was a treat. I was... More

The title about says it all, but... Our normal oyster spot was closed, so we ended up here. They had mostly or all east coast oysters and we generally prefer west coast. Even so, they were rather poorly shucked, with a lot of grit and shell included. Cocktails were below average. The burger was quite good.

We were planning to visit another restaurant in the neighborhood where we had dined several times in the past. That restaurant perhaps closed and we chose this one. The oysters were really very fresh and value for money. We would likely visit again.
