This place is simply not good. The service is awful. They appear to be understaffed. Even when it is not crowded, they cannot give diners menus and cannot take orders or produce a bill in a timely way. The food is simply not good. This is a bar, so our expectations were not high, but this was pretty awful. Our... More

My son and I had lunch at Jake's today; it was our first visit and it certainly won't be our last. The food was delicious, the music playlist was chock full of fantastic (but not overplayed) cuts from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, there were several TVs tuned to the NCAA basketball tournaments, and the prices were very reasonable. There's... More

Five weeks ago, I wrote this review on another Internet site (United Airlines Mileage Plus Dining): "We live two blocks away and go when we want an easy burger despite the fact that the food is mediocre and the consistently poor service is a running family joke. We go because of the location but can't otherwise recommend Jake's." A manager... More

We had the best time at this cute little grill, just outside of Washington DC. It wasn't too crowded, the meal was delicious, and we received excellent, attentive service. Will definitely go back whenever I'm in the area.

We stopped here around 10pm on a Saturday night to have a drink or two and a quick bite to eat after a long drive to DC. We had to be seated downstairs because the dining room was closed upstairs. The atmosphere was okay but it definitely felt like a basement. Our waiter wasn't the most attentive but it seemed... More

I was spending a few days, actually a long weekend with an old college friend who lives in The People's Republic of Takoma Park. We had been in Politics and Prose, the independent bookstore on Connecticut Avenue and saw that the next day, Sunday, Thomas Frank would be speaking about his new book - "Listen Liberal: Or Whatever Happened to... I was wondering why there was always a lot of foot traffic into this place. Now I know -- fantastic food. Some are classics while others have a spin to them. Classic fries or truffle fries? Fried mushrooms or crabmeat stuffed ones? I started out with a "cream of crab" soup that was remarkable -- lump meat crab pieces swimming... More

We went for Sunday brunch at the request of a family member--my most recent previous visit, I received the wrong order so I wasn't that keen. The brunch food (eggs benedict, omelettes) were fine and the service was quick and fairly attentive. But the arugula in my salad seemed leftover from Friday night and there wasn't any iced tea for... I came for the live music and didn't know what to expect. And I was pleasantly surprised. Great small venue with live local bands the night I was there. The server was also the bartender. I don't know how she did it! She was up front with me. I approached her as a single diner and asked for a small... More

Jake's is convenient but operates more like a sports bar than a restaurant. We waited an eternity for our food. It took so long they offered to pay for our meal on another visit. The food was decent but not great. Portions seemed small for the price. Given we only live a few blocks away and enjoy walking places for... More
