We stayed here on our 3rd night in Slovakia. The day hikers crowded the outside terrace during the sunny afternoon, but by the time dinner was ready it had settled down. A young woman working there gave us a lovely tutorial on Slovak spirits before...dinner. The gulash (our 3rd night of it) was the best version we had during the entire trip. We had Parene Buchty when we first arrived in the afternoon, and it was wonderful as well. The rooms are small/dorm style but that was what we expected and they are suitable for the need on hikes like these. We would definitely return to this lovely place if we are lucky enough to visit Slovakia again.More

Relatively big mountain cottage in the forest, accessible only on foot. There is a crowd of tourists during the summer but they have many tables. The food was average. Currently there are some construction works ongoing so it is surrounded by a building site.

Not being a skilled and trained tourist is not an issue. This place is set in a beautiful nature and accessible for almost anyone. Serves as break point for demanding hiking trails into higher areas. Worth to visit for sure.

Zamkovskeho Chata is a tranquil Swiss-style chalet built in 1942 by pioneering local mountaineer Stefan Zamkovsky, which welcomes us with the warmth of a grandma’s kitchen. Like other mountain huts in the park, supplies here are ferried in on foot by Sherpas. Some are professionals,...others are volunteers who do it to keep the tradition and lifestyle of the Sherpas alive. Contrary to the popular perception, they are distinctly different from the Himalayan Sherpas – they only carry supplies, not luggage of the trekkers. I had some typical hearty Slovak fare - lentil soup and dumplings with sheep cheese - all washed down with Tatra Tea, a tea-based liqueur from the region.More

Nice mountine cottage. Rooms are old and simple but as expected for this kind of cottage. Bathrooms where clean with warm and drinkable water. Breakfast was reach and tasty. Staff was kind. Ones all tourists not staying for night left (this is busy place during...the day) atmosphere of cottage was very pleasant and charismatic. It was very nice one night stay. Only one thing why i give 4*, prices are too high if i compare with these kind of cottages in High Tatras and garlic soup was like from powder which is not acceptable for this price even in this altitude. Go to Zbojnicka or Teryho chata to learn to cook soup ;-)More

During the high season (summer and all prolonged weekends, vacations, public holidays) is this place really crowded. But in low-season times it is a calm and charming chalet on the hiking crossroad. This chalet is only reachable by foot. Do not forget tea with rum...or slivovica :)More

Hiking to higher elevation (Terryho Chata) we stopped in Zamskeho Chata first, because my husband found the hike strenuous we booked him to stay there over night. The room was comfortable and food excellent. I really enjoyed Segedinsky Goulash but there is many choices on...the menu.More

Delightful traditional wooden chalet built 1942-43 in the High Tatras above Stary Smokovec. It’s only reachable by foot and it’s about two hours from Stary Smokovec, or about an hour if you take the cog railway up to the first station. Beautiful views on the...way including of a waterfall. The chalet has a charming, cosy dining area and an attractive outdoor terrace. I had a delicious late lunch of draught beer and local sausage, served with horseradish, mustard, a fiery pepper, onion and bread. They also do accommodation.More

We walked up through the snow from Hrebienok - a bit of a trek with a 5 year old and 2 year old - but we took our time and had great fun...... I was pleased to sit down and have a nice plate of...food and a beer - the kids loved playing in the IGLOO !!!! that the staff had made in the snow outside..... We sledged back down to Stary Smokovec - a day to remember - a wonderful mountain chaletMore
