Renowned for relaxed dining, and amazing sea views from our dining room and terrace. The Red Door Country House is nestled on a 4 acre site overlooking Lough Swilly in Fahan,Buncrana, Co Donegal. We have won numerous awards for best Wedding Venue and also Best Restaurant in Donegal 2024. We now offer BAR FOOD Wed-Sun, Our chefs offer a fantastic menu specialising with Steak, Seafood, Poultry. We offer kids menu for younger diners also. Sunday lunch, a selection of traditional Sunday fayre with choices of 2 or 3 courses from our set menu. Afternoon Tea is served on Saturday's and Sundays by pre booking only. (Gluten free option on request). Facilities are wheelchair friendly and we also offer private dining for those special occasions. The Country House has helicopter access for those of you that may want to arrive in style for that special occasion. Our bar area offers drinks, cocktails and hot beverages in relaxed comfy seating by the open fire's for you to enjoy!

We were a party of 4 booked into the Red Door on a Saturday night. The setting is absolutely beautiful and luckily the sun was shining to enhance the visual further. Upon arrival, our table was not ready and a waitress showed us to an outside seating area where we relaxed over drinks while waiting. We did wait around a half hour before being seated at our table but the cost of a bottle of wine was deducted from our bill because of the wait. The service staff was excellent and food really delicious. No complaints about any part of the experience and I would recommend Red Door to anyone. Not the cheapest meal you will find but worth the treat. The grounds are stunning and I hear, often used in wedding photography.

It was our first time going to the reddoor and we definitely were not disappointed. The food was beautiful. I had a burger and my partner had steak and they were of such great quality. I also felt very comfortable eating out again and it was evident that staff were adhering to covid 19 measures. I cant wait to visit again.

Absolutely great! We recently had a family holiday in beautiful Donegal and went to dinner twice at the Red Door. We felt incredibly safe with all the Covid precautions they had taken with the food and service were still excellent. The Red Door caters for everybody with the kids menu particularly good, great choices and large portions. Thank you Red Door, hopefully we see you again

I dined at The Red Door Country House last weekend with two others. It was the first day of their reopening, since the Covid lockdown. The overall experience was pretty poor, but due to it being their first day back in business since Covid, I feel I should mention that in case you'd like to cut them a little slack.
That said, I have to be entirely honest about the experience. I understand this area is limited when it comes to fine dining, but I don't see how this could have received so much praise. This is one of maybe 2-3 times I have been let down by Trip Advisor reviewers.
The restaurant has an amazing view and outdoor ambiance. I would enjoy coming back for a drink, and sitting outside on a nice day.
The service was very strange. I realize it was their first day back, but none of the servers seemed like they ever worked in a restaurant before. I think the worst part was when I asked the server about a good red wine while holding the wine list. She clearly knew nothing about wine as she just said to get a bottle of the house wine, and then proceeded to actually walked away from the table in the middle of what I thought was ongoing discussion. Poor girl was nice, seriously?
The food overall wasn't great. The appetizers were forgettable. The steaks were fine. My friend's pork belly was the best dish at the table. The dessert was good.
The most notable thing of the meal was that we had to send a complaint to the chef about the mashed potatoes. Yes, mashed potatoes. Yes, we are in Ireland, I know. They tasted as if they'd been frozen before the lockdown, and then thawed out that night. They were truly horrible, and I have no clue how you can mess mashed potatoes up.
All in all the bill came to 150 euro of mediocre food, a twist top bottle of wine, and great laugh over offensive mashed potatoes.
My recommendation would be to come here if you want to sit outside, and have a drink while looking at the view. You can skip the rest.

I'm sorry that you felt the need to go to TripAdvisor and write such a long review when all the issues that you have discussed could of been dealt with by our Manager (that's if they were true) in our Restaurant on our First night open after an extremely stressful time for all people in the world due to this pandemic, but hey Thanks for cutting a little slack, you have been so kind. also i'm sorry some TripAdvisor reviewers have let you down in the past but hey they cant all be wrong perhaps you should have a look at the critic.
Your understanding of our area, must I add our beautiful County must be pretty poor as we have some of the finest Restaurants in our County. That's why may i add a lot of our customers are repeat customers as they enjoy the fine dining experience we offer.

Your server Kerry was disappointed to read the review you left, as it did not reflect the service provided by her to your table in an accurate description. You had the wine list right! you chose the Malbec from our wine list, isn't that correct?
Food glorious food, we are sorry you felt your appetizers were forgettable, steaks were fine, pork belly was best dish at your table and the desert was good.
Mashed potatoes, what? we never heard such complaint in our restaurant that night from you, your table, or any other diners that dined with us that night. Our potatoes are all grown locally and cooked fresh each evening. Perhaps you are more use to the American french fries!
I'm really sorry we didn't meet your standard, I really hope you will find it everywhere you go in future.
Our standard is high and we will continue to do what we do best welcoming our loyal customers and visitors to our area, serving high quality freshly cooked food in beautiful surroundings with a fantastic team of staff whom are all long term employees, trying there upmost best in the middle of a pandemic to smile and offer the service they have always done.

Myself, hubby and 2 friends went for dinner to the Red Door last night and it just wasnt as good as when we had dined here previously.
Francis on arrival very pleasant as always, but the standards has really went downhill in my opinion. One of our favourite things used to be the beautiful Guinness Bread that u got to start and we had spoke about this on the way down in the car, unfortunately there was no Guinness bread only little scones of 1 type. Myself and hubby got the duck noodle salad to start and it was just ok, very little duck in it for €9.95 per person. Hubby asked for his Fillet Steak to be cooked to Medium, it came out almost rare so had to send back, it then came out with a crust on it🙄 by this stage everyone else had there food ate so he wasnt going to send it back again. Garlic potatoes were very greasy, and we all commented on how the food was just lukewarm and not hot.
Lovely restaurant but very disappointed this time.

Beautiful setting but very disappointed today with food & service. We had the Sunday lunch option was definitely not worth the money one of our side dishes was not ready when main course came out staff advised would have to wait 20minutes for them our main meal would have been eaten at this point.
Kids meals were not great dry chicken and over cooked sausages. We ordered teas after our meal waited 20minutes no tea arrived so had to cancel the order and the staff were so busy he just said I’ll remove it from the bill. It was for and occasion and I feel there was no personal touch just get them in and out.
Honestly I’m not someone to write a bad review but very dissatisfied not what I expected from this venue.

As we all know Donegal has some fab places to eat but this place is THE best. Staff are unreal lovely to see Peter looking so well and to see the wonderful Francis enjoying a night off. The food was top notch there wasn't one thing that was served to us that didn't warrant a 10+ it was unreal. Loved the new bathrooms very fancy pancy and the outside seating a definite plus. The staff aere attentive and super helpful, loads of space between each table tbh thats why we love it there as the tables are not on top of each other. Cant wait to go back

We were a group of 23 with mixed age group’s ,grandparent’s adults young adults and teenager’s celebrating our mums special BIG birthday it’s not easy getting a group like that together willingly, but mention the Red Door and it’s very easy😁
From start to finish, the experience was fantastic! Frances and mags welcomed us all on arrival and showed us through to the bar (I think it might be called Kate’s room) where Peter was waiting for us with a lovely bubble’s reception 🍾🍾🥂🥂it was so relaxing to just sit together and relax and catch up..we were then showed to our tables that the team had decorated beautifully with the balloons we had provided.
The meal was divine - between us all I’d say we had everything on the menu & practically wanted to lick our plates it was that good! Plus, the customer service was brilliant too, even with the strict covid measures in place, there was loads of space between each table tbh that’s why we love it here as the tables are not on top of each other. Can’t wait to go back. Great to see such a gorgeous place doing so well - Would highly recommend it!

This was our first visit of the year and sorry to say a disappointing one.
We know things have changed because.of Covid but the prices have increased but the menu choices not as good, portions smaller and food def not as it was.
We have/had 4 restaurants in Donegal that we.loved so it was such a treat to finally get back to done.
The bar service was extremely slow which was disappointing. We both had Goats.cheese to start it was lovely.
Unfortunately fillet steak wasn't on the menu so went for sirloin and lamb. The dauphoinese potatoes were the worst ever so bad you couldn't get a.knife through them. The cheese was burnt to a crisp and if there was cream in it it was a minimal amount at 4.95 euros a portion you would expect it to be right. The lamb was.ok but.absuely no gravey and lacked flavour and at 28.95 euros I expected something nice.
Would we go back? No. Were we disappointed? Absolutely. After many years of dining here it breaks my heart to write this but a bill of 159 euros and to walk away unhappy with our bill guys you need to sort things out.

Amazing hotel in a very idealic setting and located on the Wild Atlantic Way. Food is absolutely sensational and the staff are very attentive. Whether you like fish, meat or vegan Paul, the new head chef, and his team will delight in serving glorious food. 30 euro for at best a very average Sunday Lunch,Is that value for money( 19.95 euro for main course).
9 euro for two small bottles of Bulmers cider, this is INISHOWEN, not TEMPLE BAR.
Quality of the food and the ever increasing prices make the Red Door no longer attractive.

Unfortunately, with the trail of reviews you have left in various establishments overs the years it seems you are mostly always disappointed.
We proudly serve 2 courses for €24.95 and 3-courses Lunch for €29.95 each Sunday which is almost always fully booked with repeat customers, which speaks for itself. Our meat and fish are all sourced locally and served fresh, the Salmon in question on Sunday 16th February was delivered to our premises on Saturday at lunch time.
You did fail to mention in your review that your Salmon was given to you complimentary on this occasion as you had complained of its quality on the date of your visit, like you have done on previous occasions even as far back as 2011, when you stated you were dissatisfied with your food and also annoyed at the manager for not giving you anything off your meal or drinks on that visit.
You also stated you would never be back, however you have returned on numerous occasions? Unfortunately, we see a pattern of the customer type you are, and for that reason we no longer welcome you here.
May we also add you will see from almost 100% of our reviews how happy our previous customers are and have been with the food, service and ambience of our restaurant which we all strive to offer.

Just returned home yesterday evening from an amazing meal at The Red Door. From the moment we arrived we were treated so well. I love love love how beautiful the grounds are & cannot wait to return on a beautiful sunny day & have a drink outside. We went for the early bird menu & it did not disappoint. I chose the liver pate & sourdough to start, pork belly for main & the most amazing brownie I have ever tasted for dessert. The rest of my Family got a few different options & I can safely say no one left a thing on their plates. I would like to give a special mention to our beautiful waitress Pilar, nothing was of trouble to her & she has a lovely manner about her, a real credit to you! Thank you Pilar! For anyone thinking of going do it! It may have been our first visit but will most definitely not be our last. Thank you for a beautiful evening. We will see you all soon again.

Popped in to the Red Door for dinner on a Friday night, with no booking. We had just driven from Belfast and had arrived in Fahan looking for something to eat. Last orders at the Red Door are at 20:00 and we landed in around 20:10. A very courteous member of staff informed us that we had missed last orders for food, but he would check with the kitchen to see if they could accommodate us. Within a few minutes we were brought to our table and we were in for a treat. Our fish taco starter of fresh hake was outstanding, perfectly cooked and just the right amount for a starter. My main course of lamb cutlets hit the spot and was also perfectly cooked with a range of jus, mint sauce and Greek yoghurt. This is a very well run establishment and the service was impeccable all night. It is also great value for money in terms of the quantity and the quality of the food on offer. We were so happy with our meal that we popped in again the next night at the bar for a few Guinness to round the night off. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely make a point of having a meal here and next time it will be booked well in advance. A big thankyou to all the Red Door Staff for making us feel so welcome and catered for. I'm a big fan of Fred Sirieix, but the staff at the Red Door would give him a run for his money in terms of the customer service they provide.

It has almost been one year now since our wedding at the Red Door and we are still receiving wonderful comments from friends and family on this venue.
It is a truly magical place to celebrate something so special. There is not one negative thing we can say.
The venue itself is so beautiful, intimate and has an atmosphere like nowhere else. The location is unique along the waterfront, surrounded by lovely gardens with a stunning backdrop of the mountains and hills behind - it is breathtaking.
The food is to the absolute highest standards and quality, you will not find finer food than at the Red Door.
The outstanding level of friendliness and professionalism of the staff at the Red Door is rare and something this venue should be proud of. Frances Doherty is a Queen. Throughout the planning and especially on the day nothing is impossible for Frances and she will go above and beyond for you and all of your guests.
There is truly nowhere else in Ireland like this venue(and I would argue further than this), it is impossible to be disappointed; from the moment we first enquired to have our wedding reception here up to this day now when we return to visit we have been so warmly welcomed and taken care of.
The Red Door will always be an extra special place for us and we look forward to celebrating many happy moments here in our future!

5 of us had an absolutely fantastic meal first week of the reopening. The starters were just delicious and we particularly enjoyed the goats cheese mousse and the pate. The mains of cod, duck and gourmet burger were also all really good and we finished off with some great desserts. The presentation was great and the quality and flavours of the food made for a most enjoyable meal. It was a real treat. Ciaran our server was fantastic and overall we thoroughly enjoyed the evening in lovely surroundings. We thought it was very good value overall.
