A nice place to have a very cheap but tasty lunch in the Old Town. The kind of a cafe with the line and everybody with trays. Good variety of food, low prices but unfortunately no signatures in any language but Latvian.

My latvian friend introduced this restaurant to me. I so surprised the staff weighed food in order to calculate price. Food and drink are clean and local. There are many types of salads that ready to serve. The location is excellent. Tourists must try.

This place was suggested by my tour guide and by god was he right. Walk in, pick up a tray and then point all the lovely food you want to eat. Start with some salads and progress to the meat section. The plate is weighed...for price but don't worry about the costs. Pile your plate, chose what you like but eat what you take. All in I had a delicious selection of salads, fresh tasty chicken and a pork schnitzel, all for €3.40. I forgot my drink and went back only to be treated like a VIP and whizzed through the check out without waiting so that my lunch remained warm. I visited this cafe/cafeteria on the suggestion of my walking tour guide, and it was great. Wonderful salad options, a lot of main courses (not sure what they all were), and some juices and desserts. No booze. My groaning plate was 4.72 Euro, and it...was healthy and delicious fare. Then I stopped at ABA for some great beer. OK you wouldn't come here for a leisurely lunch but it's full of local workers having their midday meal. It's canteen style. Main meal are sold by weight and although we only had soup there appeared to be a good selection and salads to go...with. This bistro has a variety of pre prepared food you can combine on your own plate. You pay per 100g, but prices are low but taste is good. For under 5eur you have a quick good full lunch. I had marinated bbq pork, chicken plov...and 2 salates for 4,74eur. You can choose from 10 fresh nice salates, lots of chicken dishes, rice potatoes sauces, gulasch and and and. Good heavy latvian meal. The only downside: due to pre preparation, the food is not as hot as you might whish. Also the lady was not that friendly. There is better places of this kind elsewhere in...the city. Idea is that there is a variety of foods, you make your choises and pay by the weight.
