Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A bit disappointed tonight! I’ve been coming here either solo or with my Estonian friend for a long time. Today’s visit had nothing to do with the food - though it appeared suspiciously fast - I always like to think something of the dish is...cooked fresh. It was lamb which I’d not had before but was nice; Chef Andres signature sauce - The waiter was perfectly pleasant but I felt he had to take more notice of those near me - a couple of men by the window and those next to me ( the chap was a bit loud - too much of the good brandy?!) I think were friends with the Chef as he came out to chat - as he’s done with us before. I just felt rushed and a bit ignored. I try to visit here each time I come to Tartu but next time I’ll bring someone else with me. I love the food, but please treat your solo or / and foreign, guests the same as others! I’ll be back to see you next month however…!More

There is a table where one can cut his own slices of bread. I’ve never ever had such delicious rye bread! Staff was quick and friendly. Food was really good. Our main courses were meat, which was great, but the vegetables were of great quality...too. Inside they have lovely cakes, please have a look before you decide on a dessert. Wholeheartedly recommendMore

I must have visited here about 6 or 7 times over the years and it never fails. I’m so glad they’re still open despite the last couple of years which must’ve been so hard. The food is top notch, wine gorgeous and service always impeccable....I’m not really a dessert fan but I’ve just devoured the best creme brûlée… looking forward to seeing you again next time in august I hope!More

We attempted to visit the restaurant on 2 occasions. First, summer 2021- only preset lunch is served with little choice of meals. On second, in February 2022, my wife, daughter and myself were kicked out of empty open restaurant, because “did not have a booking”....Our experience it’s impossible to have a proper lunch/dinner at this place.More

A really nice restaurant on a main side street in Old Town. The restaurant has character great food and a nice wine list. Nice fusion of French and Estonian cuisine. I had the boar and it was both well cooked and great accompaniments. The service...was wonderful as well, it was our servers first day and what she missed on certain niceties she maid up for in carrying and effort. (Note to her boss please don’t yell at her so much she didn’t deserve it and it was the only downside to the meal - we all have first days)!More

Definitely the kind of place that wants to offer top-quality, but manages to deliver only crap instead. Like - who puts banana in pea puree soup! Nobody. Except this weird chef. All the foods here have very awkward additions and they don't make the food...better, but exactly the opposite. I live in Tartu and I don't know anyone who likes this place. Recommended only to weirdos with twisted taste.More

We went to Chez Andre on gloomy Monday evening. Place was almost full (rest of Tartu seemed almost deserted), atmosphere was really cosy and nice. I can't eat lot's of things due to food intolerance, but chef came personally to our table and we found...solution so I could not only survive my dinner but also enjoy it. Try strawberry salad! Food is great, service is great. Excellent!More

After long walk, we tried to find some place for dinner, first time in Tartu Old Town. This place surprised- why?: chef personally communicated with us couple of times!!!! Food was excellent! Chef(also owner) told us about today’s hard times how hard is to survive...(FCK COVID-19😡) Prices is quiet mid range, but food is great! Highly recommended!!!!More

Probably not the cheapest restaurant in Tattto but it is worth the money. Excellent food and service.

It was some eight years ago we previously were in Tartu. Then this restaurant had different name. Years have gone, but again we were very happy with their food. As local strawberry season was on peak, they were several innovations with strawberry taste. I enjoyed...excellent smoked mushroom soup for starter. Our main courses, moose and wild boar, were masterpieces. Also wine list is OK. Andrus himself is great person and so helpful. New waitress was bit unexperienced, but very friendly. Still the place to return.More

I went to this restaurant for the first time to eat and had checked online their menu, to be sure that my sister could also take something (she doesnt eat meat). When we arrived, they only gave some special menu and the a la carte...menu that they show online, wasnt offered at all! Why is it up online then?? My sister couldnt take anything at first, in the end she got so hungry that she luckily agreed to take a cake (they have some cakes always by the counter). So, I could take the special menu because I eat everything (it included a fixed starter, main course and dessert - same for everybody). I am so sad because online they have put so nice pictures up to promote their special menu, ofcourse i understand that online you always make things seem a bit better than in reality, but this place promotes themselves to be fancy, so the serving should also look delicious :) but i am so sad to say that everything was so off, it felt like the chef was sick of making the same "special menu" for everybody and that he didnt care anymore what's the outcome. The starter had too much sauce, there was no food taste at all, the main course was kind of okay, but i would hope for something better from a "well-known" restaurant, comparing it to ANY other restaurant where I have ever been... :( and the dessert was also............. disappointing. The food in a restaurant ofcourse is very important, but also the service makes a big role. The waiter was also very unprofessional, i dont know, maybe he was also tired, but this was the last straw. For example, he said "do you want me to tell you whats on your plate or you can read the menu by yourself maybe?" <- i have never ever heard in a "fancy" restaurant a waiter express themselves like that. My whole family was literally in shock. I go very often to fancy restaurants all over the world and eating makes me always happy and I was so happy to celebrate my birthday in my little hometown with my family, but it was just a big disappointment. I never write reviews or anything, but this was just so disappointing, i hope the restaurant can read this comment and better themselves or stop promoting them to be better, than the reality is.More

Very tasty food with good wine we ate friday night. Service was very effective and good, everything worked smoothly.Shrimp skewers were a delight for the eyes and mouth. We didn't like those " golden plates" . Prices are little high, but not comparable to Finnish...prices.A very pleasant experience overall.More

Everything is delicious and menu not over complicated, and whatever you decide to...order you won't be disappointed. I would highly recommend this place.More

A group of us - around 18 - experienced the dinner at Chez Andre. Andre came out to explain the menu, and decided on the 3 course meal together, that comprised of salad, fish and dessert. I was a bit far away so couldn't hear...the entire description, but it was quite obvious that he was passionate about cooking, and he cared about the whole experience. The salad, with citrus juice and delightful combination of vegetables and sauce burst with flavors and freshness. The main dish, white fish with vegetables, just delicate enough yet firm enough to be cut with forks was a delightful experience. And, the chocolate cake with passion fruit sorbet perfectly balanced the sweetness, slightly sourness, and chocolaty center of the molten cake, literally melted in the mouth. Even the house wine was full of body and flavor. What a delightful experience! Easily the best dining experience of the trip.More
