They make very good cakes and other things, and they lady owner and other young ladies working there are wonderful and helpful. Unfortunately there is a man who works there who is bad for business. I heard it before, but then I experienced it. He...told me I had to buy all five pieces of a cake, when all I wanted was two. I guess he thought he was a clever salesman. I didn’t buy, and I haven’t been there since because of this. I will return eventually, but I’ll certainly leave if he’s working. Also, I noticed they sell tap water, rather than just providing it. That’s sketchy. Everything else is great though. I could recommend many things there, but you should just try whatever looks good to you. It’s unfortunate that I have to write anything negative in my review, because the lady who owns the place is so nice. Minus one star because of the unfortunate man who works there, and minus another for the tap water that costs money (not very Estonian).More

This place is absolutely amazing! I had a delicious cabbage and meat soup as well as a bunt cake full of chocolatey goodness. The menu is not in English, but the server kindly translated it. Also, everything on the menu is 5€ or less! I...felt like I was eating at my grandmothers table. Great food and atmosphere.More

Recommend only for those who are curious about the “joys and quality” of a typical Soviet-era service. It is either just slightly unfriendly or really rude. Apparentely the rudest barista is the owner, which explains a lot. When a person shouts to the client just...for a friendly reminder to get finally his coffee (after a meal), I can only imagine the “positive vibes” he sends to his employees. The food is all right, though (although it also seems to depend on the mood of somebody. For instance, a pancake size and filling can vary two times. Be aware of demanding reminders to pay only in cash (as an owner a small company, I can somehow understand it…, however, I wouldn’t express it publicly. When I described my experience, my colleagues laughed at me and said that they’ve been avoiding this place for years now, exactly for the same reasons. More

We loved this place. It is very oldschoolish in good sense! Never had such a delicious pancakes-one is really enough! Great choice of cakes. And what a lovely lady who was serving there. Really worth money and it wasn't very expensive. They very nicely have...thought of children.More

Warmhearted and old-styled family cafe. Not wide menu but very tasty food - just like at home. And very interesting cakes, try cloudberry cake. Here you can eat your breakfast (porridge, omelettes...) or dinner (soups, salads, pancakes...). Prices are low. It is historic place so...try not to miss it when you visit Karlova. Many local people eat or drink coffee here! PS: there are children corner with books and toys and also books and nespapers for their parents, or you can just sitting here with your own book. Also they sell homemade bread and serve food for takeaway.More

The cakes are truly amazing, but there are downsides to this cozy little place. I still go sometimes as it is easy to park in front across the street. Do not order the machine coffee..it was gross. Latte is ok. A glass of tapwater cost...0.70 cents which is outrageous (I dont know if it is still so). The service has been tolerable, but it is abit sad and in stark contrast with the very nice interior (last time visited was approx Feb 2017). If things have improved I will change my review...More

Really good prices and lots of things to choose from. Had a rye-blueberry cake and it was so good! Not too sweet and exactly what I needed. Everything else looked also really good and with very reasonable prices. They also serve soups, omlettes and many...other small meals, also coffee and tea. The place has a cool Soviet interior but is small and cozy. Only wished that the lady behind the counter could've been a bit more friendlier but she was still very helpful.More

It is a lovely local cafe in the wooden part of Tartu serving soups, quiche, omelettes, pastry, cakes and good coffee! Prices are good (a big plate of delicious soup is 2.4-2.6 €), pastry is good and atmosphere is cosy. They have toys for children...and even a basket with diapers in the bathroom! Tip: try to avoid rush time around lunch and right after office hours, it tends to be busy then. It's possible to buy food (at least cakes and pastry for sure) to take along and they also do catering. I've had it several times and it was very good!More
