Soon after arriving in the delightful Old Town we headed here for a grand lunch. We were very taken with the décor and the atmosphere and looked forward to a good meal. We weren't disappointed. From the interesting menu we began with scallops and lightly...More

So, claiming to be a "Garlic Restaurant", I was expecting to be garliced off the face of the earth. In reality, most of the garlic included was whole cloves (i.e. uncrushed or grated) and thus had done little to flavour the food. The food was...More

Heavy on garlic - food very good - reasonable prices - but at times a bit heavy on dressiongs and extras - and as such maybe drowned some of the finer tastes that did exist, had to go find them, but when did the basis...More

Nice rather formal restaurant with a very good menu. Certainly didn't think that there was too much garlic. Had langoustine soup and venison - absolutely delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. We had such a good evening we went back two nights later with friends...More

Great meat and not less greater fish. If you want, you might choose meals with less or, practically, without garlic. And, of course, a place itself. Wonderful medieval interior in the very hart of the Old Town. Meals are served quickly and very hot. Service is...More

The ambiance here is amazing and the food is very good as well. Despite being nicknamed "the garlic restaurant", garlic isn't overwhelming in the entrees, at least not in the ones we had. We also had a garlic-themed appetizer which included garlic-stuffed olives and garlic-stuffed...More

Do not be put off by the restaurant being described as a garlic restaurant.Yes there is extensive use of garlic, but it used imaginatively and will probably give you a different perspective on garlic showing what it tastes like when really fresh. The food was...More

In 1999, Estonia's first garlic restaurant, Balthasar, was open in the very heart of the Old Town of Tallinn, Town Hall Square, in the building of Town Hall Drugstore. Balthasar immediately won numerous fans due its unique menu and interior. Wooden interior, characteristic of a medieval building and excellent renovation contribute to the aristocratic atmosphere of the building. An excellent view of the Town Hall Square opens from t he windows of the restaurant.
