Used to be our go-to-place on Tallinn.
Service, minimalistic and poor. Not even basic skills with language.
Food, uneatable. Rarely do we need to stop eating because food is so poor.
Not going here anytime soon.
After a long sight-seeing day we were heading back to our hotel when we accidentally found a free table in the shadow on the terrace of this restaurant. We were received with a really warm welcome and the waitress helped us to make our choice....Traditional Estonian fried garlic bread, lamb, and Solyanka.
We found other local specialities like crispy fried pork ears, fried herrings on the menu that also wanted to try. This restaurant is right in the heart of the touristic area of the Old Town, but because of the kind and friendly service coupled with very tasty dishes we have decided to eat here 3 more times! We did not regret it at all, we were treated as VIP clients. Their solyanka soup was really top, I would strongly recommend it to try!More
Already from the doorstep you are warmly greeted. Staff is amazing and working as a team helping one another, and it shows in their warm smiles and attitude, that is passed on to the customers.
For starter we had roast beef. For main course we...took sea bass and roasted pig. Food was phenomenal! We also got house made bread and butter.
Luckily the a la carte food was 50% cheaper than usual so we got away with a steal. Normally main course costs around €20, this time only half.
Dogs are allowed in and staff is very attentive to them as well.
We will definitely come here again!
Thanks to the staff and chef for amazing experience.More
The terrace of the restaurant in the heart of Tallinn Old Town, in the middle of hustle and bustle.
The service was quite quick and friendly. The food was good and due to the difficult situation the dishes were discounted 50%.
We are locals, but never visited this place, because its in tourist-trap place. But as now in hard times they have discounts for a la carte we desided to give them a try. And we were surprised. We used - as locals - to restrained...service, but what we got, was excellent: warm, friendly and effective. Great job, guys! We ordered duck and lamb. Both meals was great, especially surprised sides: baked pumpkin and celery root - those where the best. Duck was excactly as we ordered and lamb was really slow-cooked. For dessert we tried creme brulee with strawberry sauce and date&nut creame with berry sauce - again bulls-eye. We highly recommend and will definatelly go back Olles kohalikud - pole me kunagi Pepersackis söönud - asub see ju nii täpselt sellises kohas Vana-Turu kaelas ja on nii turistidele orienteeritud. Enamus kohtades on kahjuks "klaasiks" veerand (125). Kokkuvõtvalt - tuleb välja, et ka vanalinnas on võimalik saada elamust nii maitsemeeltele kui teeninduse osas. Täname teid, Peppersacki töötajad!More
Normally I would not even look at the such restaurants that are clearly meant for tourists. However due to the current crisis their prices for a la carte were down 50% (only during September 2020) so we decided to give them a go.
Side note:...this was the one of the few nearby restaurants with customers in them. Others were completely deserted.
We were seated outside and greeted by very friendly and attentive staff. They even provided water for our dog.
We took pork and fish and a couple of drinks. Before the food arrived we got four locally made pieces of bread and butter that was superb. Our main meal was delish! Absolutely delish. Normally pork goes for €18 and fish for €22, but as the prices were halved we paid “normal” price. I can’t say I’m prepared to pay the full price, but for the price we paid we were well happy.
We also popped into Peppersack’s cafeteria and bought some pastries and cakes to go. Let’s say I’m definitely going back for more of their pastry :) Prices range between €1,40-3.
All in all we were well pleased. I just hope the prices will not return to their usual level, as then I don’t think we would be going back. Even in Munich/Vienna/London the main meal usually doesn’t cost that much.More
Service was good but food was really poor. The garlic bread was very oily and duck was a bit raw and didn’t seem high quality, the sauce for the duck was very watery and lacked texture and depth. Considering the location, atmosphere and prices we...were expecting higher quality food.More
Not all restaurants in the Old City are tourist traps and this one proves exactly my point!!!
I sat outside in the summer terrace as the weather was perfect (but did get a glimpse of the interior that is also beautiful btw)
The waitress was...very helpful, fast and efficient - I ordered the duck as a main which I must say was cooked to perfection!
The salmon salad and the desert were also very nicely presented and full of taste. Do try the local honey beer - I think I got 3 :)
Overall a perfect lunch in a beautiful street of this medieval city!More
