Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked a table and when we arrived we were told that there is no reservation in our name. We checked that we had called there and it was not the wrong number and we were in no means rude in doing so. We are...native speakers and the woman who was checking our reservations was not, so it seemed that she did not fully understand estonian or did not want to understand it. Considering it is a restaurant in Estonia it was unplesent, to say the least, to walk into a Michelin star restaurant and not feel like we were welcome there. (We were dressed nice and acted politely ) She also seemed to be annoyed by the fact that we were surprised that they expect people to book a table but do not bother to write it down when people call and want a table. It was not a weekend so there was plenty of tables to choose from, so she told us in front of other customers (exchanging looks and smirking to them) who were also russian like she was, to go to the back and choose one for ourselves! NOBODY showed us to our table. That one has only happened to me in CRU. Usually people at restaurants welcome guests who come and want to spend money in a restaurant. We were taken aback but did not leave because we didnt want to start looking for another place to eat at. The food was good but nothing spetacular. I must say i have had better in places that do not have a Michelin star. The stake was quite nice. The waiters kept changing and it seemed like at times we were forgotten a bit because we were sent to the back and it seemed the waiters were very busy with other clients at the front and had plenty of time for them. We spent a decent amount of money so it was a little weird to feel that way in a place that is not the cheapest and advertises itsellf as one of the top restaurants in Tallinn. The best part came when our cards were declined at the end of the evening. Both of ours! We both knew we had enough money so we were thinking that its the systems fault. THE WAITER SUGGESTED WE CAN MAKE A PERSONAL BANK TRANSFER TO HIS BANK ACCOUNT!!!! We knew that there are places to take money out of near by so we asked that maybe one of us could go and take money out and the other waits at the restaurant. He told us that all the atms are very far away and maybe we could make that bank transfer. We decided NOT to transfer money to a waiters PERSONAL BANK ACOUNT and my friend went and took the money from the atm. As i was waiting at the table there were people paying with cards and having no problems. The fact that the cards declined and we had to take the money from an atm might have just been our banks security system kicking in at the wrong place and time but that didnt change the fact that we were offered to transfer money to someones personal account, our reservation was not booked, we were not showed to our table and we had to take our own coats and nobody said goodnight to us!!!!!!!!!!!! Overall the feeling was that besides one blonde waitress who was friendlly enough, one other didnt want to see estonian speaking people in an estonian restaurant and the one named Martin wanted to be overly friendly with offering us the opportunity of making bank transfers to HIS PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT. Also they seemed to think we didnt understand or speak russian as they were speaking it as they walked by us!!! WE DID!More

We stayed at the hotel so we thought that it is only fair to try the restaurant as well and there was no regrets. As expected from fine dinning the portions are not big but the food is tasty and very well presented. The stuff...was very attentive and helpful and we had our wine glasses topped up in right moments. Considering prices in Tallinn right now I would say that this restaurant is offering pretty decent value. Definitely worth trying in TallinnMore

Really friendly and prompt service, and the five course tasting menu offered really good value for 55€. Popular place on busy walking area, so reservation is recommended.

For all the good reviews and price stickers on the place, I was expecting something spectacular. Sadly I found myself disappointed. Food was in no means bad but it really wasn't anything special. Beef tartare was mild in flavor and shrimp pasta tasted like it...could've been made at home from a can. In no way bad but for a restaurant of this stature I was expecting a bit more. For the price you might want to look elsewhere.More

Stayed at the hotel which is part of same building and wanted to try the restaurant as noted it was in the Michelin guide. It wasn't particularly busy while I was there early evening so a bit of a quiet atmosphere. My waitress was happy...to explain a bit about the different dishes and I chose the borsch to start as I wanted to try something based on a traditional eastern European dish. The soup itself was quite flavourful but the pieces of beef in it were tough. I had a duck dish for my main course and this had quite a rich sauce which I don't think went that well with the duck. Also the duck skin was left on the breast but it wasn't crispy and with no seasoning I could taste so not sure why it was on the plate. Overall I was disappointed and decided not to have a dessert. Price wise it was pretty standard with other restaurants in the area but definitely had better food while I was in Tallinn.More

Not surprisingly they made it to Micheline 2022 as every single detail is thought thru and thru. The only thing which really bothers is the smell from the sewage in the street which somehow ruins the magic, but if the place is not busy, you...can choose a different table and or pray for the wind to blow a different direction. Love their courtyard with the flowers!More

Average good food but we expected more based on a visit a few years ago. Service was friendly and we did not have to wait for long. We warmly recommend passionfruit coctail and coffee icecream. Fish cevice had too much sour (vinegar and tomato) so...that you could not taste the fish. Duck breast was unsurprising as well as the the fish of the month. House wines average or below.More

Hmmm. A lovely setting but the front door kept being left open allowing a cold wind to make diners uncomfortable. Why not just keep it locked? We were 3 diners and our bread plate came out with 3 white bread but just 2 dark bread....The restaurant name is French, the food is sort of Italian, the wine list is sort of Italian oriented. All a bit mixed. Service was a cut above Estonian standard but definitely below the other good restaurants we had eaten at in Tallinn. But it was far from bad. We had to ask for serviettes. The dishes themselves were very good. The pasta with prawns dish was cooked then the prawns put on top and the plates were cold. The duck was delicious and perfectly cooked but served Luke warm. I guess that means it was well rested. The wine list was short but ok. The house red, a primitivo was perfectly acceptable. So all in all, it’s a puzzle to me why this is in the Michelin guide. However you will get a good meal here.More

So what can one say is the best thing about Cru? Well in our case it was the take-away pizza we picked up after we'd left prematurely mid-way through the meal. On reflection I suppose we should have realised this was going to be all...furcoat and no knickers when our starter arrived - a 'Hot Smoked Salmon salad'. I've eaten this type of dish many a time, although normally I pick it up from a service station convenience shop and it's presented in a plastic box with a small pot of dressing on the side and a price tag a third of what we were being charged here. In this case the dressing had been puddled onto a ludicrously moulded plate and the component ingredients dumped on top in a random order of some salad leaves. Unremarkable is the kindest thing one can say but as we had already breached a reasonable Cotes du Rhone we gave them the benefit of the doubt and awaited our mains. We waited a bit more, as did our waitress who was attentive and apologetic at the length of delay but seemingly unsurprised that the clock had by now completed a full hour. Eventually the mains appeared - "Roasted Whitefish Fillet" and "Grilled Beef Fillet Steak" We had enquired as to the provenance of the Whitefish but I think the explanation got lost in translation. What arrived was a stiff, salinated husk of pescataria perched (I use the noun advisedly) on a splash of indiscriminate vegetables, all of which had boiled to death. It was so overly salty as to be inedible making us think that it may have been salt cod that had not been soaked adequately or rinsed through. The other main was the "Grilled Beef Fillet Steak" - in fact a 'Grilled Beef Rump (possibly Sirloin) Steak' which is fairly unambiguously not lost in translation but straight forward mis-representation. Lying atop was a garland of burnt kale and it was surrounded by some spoonfuls of baby-food smooth root vegetables beginning to crimson by the seepage of blood that had leached from the steak. I mean really guys? For an establishment that has a Michelin plaque hanging on the front wall you'd have considered that resting a steak before serving is basic cookery, especially if you're putting a €25 price tag on it. At this point we cut our losses and decided to leave. The manager did agree that perhaps we did not receive what we were expecting, offering a lame excuse that the Beef was indeed a fillet, just not a Filet and did offer to cook us something different but given the dishes so far we declined and paid for what we had consumed. The waitress was suitably embarrased on our behalf, looking as if she'd witnessed this before and would again, no doubt soon, while the manager was suitably unfriendly, probably more interested in playing to his locals propping up the bar who were making disparaging remarks as we left. In conclusion Cru has a fabulous location and is a well turned out/decorated space it is just woefully let down by what comes out of it's kitchen which, for a restaurant, is somewhat crucial. Probably the best thing to order would be a Bolt Scooter and pop just around the corner and eat at R14 - now they know how to cook (& at a similar price)More
