Halmi Place is one of the greatest cafes/restaurants I have seen so far. It combines a beautiful, vintage interiour in an old building with a young food and coffee culture at very reasonable prices. For example the linch menu consists of one soup, a vegetarian...or vegan main dish and a little desert with coffee for only 5,90€ or a big portion for 6,90€. Since there is only those two options every day the food comes quickly and tastes well. Combined with the interiour and a very easy atmosphere it made the stay a great experience for us. Also the entrance, a mix between staircase and backyard offers an antique, yet modern atmosphere with the opportunity to take great pictures! On top the staff was extremely nice and obliging and the coffee tastes good as well. Food and drinks are not outstanding but especially to those prices really great. My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 hours and didn't get bored. Big recommendation!More

Just imagine that: after waiting for a rather not-giving -a-damn kind of waiter for more than 15 minutes only to tell you there's no way you can eat your lunch at the place you were sitting for the whole time you then need to go...outside, where already in September is so cold you can't imagine how on earth this place could be the only fitting one for a lunch...OK. Deep breath, it can't get worse than that, right? In fact, yes it can! The sitting might look nice on the pics but makes eating close to impossible...the soup is leaking out of your bowl because of the grandma unstable table and chair you have to sit on while everything around you is shaking....well..going from bad to worse. One minute after you receive your soup that is already half empty because of all the shaking and half cold you get the main course - I guess only not to experience sort of shock after eating a cold soup - you can eat cold main dish as well...The lunch menu is literally a rip off (both the price and taste ) and if you'd like have a nice veggie dish just go to a nearby vegetarian place or simply anywhere - "it can't get worse than Halmi space" became sort of saying in our household for a reason. No, never ever. Thanks for nothing.More

All three of us highly enjoyed the unique ambience in this culturally oriented café with its spacious rooms witnessing a golden past. Service was personal yet professional, the food beautifully presented, tasteful and healthy (several gluten-free dishes).

Unusual multi-purpose space in the centre of Kosice (in a historical building where only the most necessary reparation has been done) with 1 daily lunch-time vegan menu offer.

Lovely vintage café with beautiful interior made from old furniture and books in historical building. Cosy place, great coffee-also prepared with alternative techniques and nice cakes.

Was a bit skeptical as this is the first vegan cafe I've come across in Kosice but I was very pleasantly surprised. Even before we went I was pretty excited as I had checked their menu online and liked the dishes and that they change...every day. The place has a really cool vintage look with a cozy feel to it. Our favourite part was sitting outside on the little balcony overlooking the high street with an amazing view of the Cathedral. The food was very tasty and filling. I loved how it was almost like a tasting menu with 3 courses and a lemongrass tea (4.80 euros altogether). The 'miso soup' was tasty but definitely more like a vegetable soup than traditional miso soup. Main course was a chickpea curry with jasmine rice and spinach salad (topped with a mango and coconut dressing), which was very suited to my taste buds as I make something similar at home regularly. For dessert I had a poppy seed cake with plums which was very nice and sort of traditionally slovak which I liked a lot :) Service was a bit slow when we came in but they did have a lot of people and once I ordered it got very very fast. As soon as I finished one course they came to take my plate away and give me the next course. I didn't even need to mention to anyone that I was in a hurry. I can't wait to come back for one of their vegan grill parties!!More

Slovakia is not receiving good press these days (at least, from the point of view of a humanitarian with a grasp on history) but this is not the full story, as is often the case. There is a struggle within Slovakia between a progressive new...generation and a reactionary old guard, who do have young supporters, as well, the kind who are powerless unless they dress up in uniforms and handle firearms. Kosice is emerging as a leader of the new progressives and it is astonishing the changes that have taken place in a short space of time. HalmiCaffe is a good example of this. Five years ago the idea of a vegan restaurant in the centre of the city would have been inconceivable. Now this is one of a number that have opened in recent times. But it is more than a restaurant, promoting workshops and artistic events and creating a space for enlightened thinking. The restaurant itself is a complex of large, bright rooms with old comfortable furniture and a relaxed atmosphere. Every week there is a different set menu for €4.80 of vegan and gluten-free food. Great value! They use fresh ingredients from local suppliers but not organic, as yet. The meals are large and filling but maybe need a little more flair. However, this is a place worth visiting and it is exciting to see this sort of innovation in the face of mounting regression. In the present climate HalmiCaffe is not only a great space but it is also a political statement worth supporting!More

Lovely lovely hip place on the first floor on the main street. Art on the walls, vintage tables and chairs, young crowd, old bicycle on the ceiling, old typewriter in the loo - a great look! And the food - all vegan, tasty, seasonal and...cheap! A 3 course lunch menu with a herb tea was 4.20 euros. Excellent value and very tasty, quick service. No food on Sundays. Be lucky and grab a table by the widow and watch the street : )More

When I was there in October, they offered me a really good filter coffee from one Czech coffee roaster. The service and atmosphere were fine. Today I went there with my parents in a hope that my family will have good coffee and service but...I was wrong. Both the coffee and service were awful. Better drink instant coffee then that over-roasted garbage they serving now. The service was bad. The team slandered their customers. Bad for them, I heard their gossip. After my today visit I want to say never more, sorry :(More

First of all, I'm not a vegan, nor a vegetarian but this place offers you a healthy option preparing interesting meals from around the world. It is styled in a retro style, so do not be surprised you will be sitting on chairs that look...like your grandma's. The only reason I give 4 stars is that they have unified the menu price to 4.20 EUR (used to be 3.20 and 4.50), but I guess this is a way how to pay back the new kitchen appliances. Nevertheless, it is a fine place to go if you are not in a mood for eating meat ;)More
