Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My mum and I accidently stumbled past the restaurant. The very charming waiter asked us if we wanted to take a look inside although they were already closing. Lovely furniture, an exquisite room and an idyllic garden to sit outside.
The next evening we visited for a glass of wine. Both the drinks and the consulting of the right choice of wine were brilliant.
On the next morning we enjoyed breakfast at the Chez Balzac, and as the picture shows it was delicious.
Highly recommend, a secret tip if you want to have holiday feeling in Bratislava, without the tourists.

My wife and I came for breakfast. We sat on the terrace, where only three tables were occupied. Two waiters came out on the terrace several times and for more than 10 minutes when we were sitting at the table, no one stopped by to offer us the menu and the possibility of ordering. So we leave with bad feeling. Very bad experience.

I regret to say that this unique cafe no longer exists.
It was an oasis of French charm and nobility, a standard of taste and etiquette, a unique place where you could experience what you can't find anywhere else in Bratislava - an incredible feeling from really good service.
Unfortunately, the owners have decided to turn this town into a self-service buffet.
The spacious terrace under the old trees is empty and closed, the lights in the hall of mirrors are off, the waiter who called you Madame and Monsieur is gone.
All that remained was the pastry counter and a dark corner at the back where they bring what you ordered to the common table and you can take it yourself.
We liked going there, this place inspired hope that even in Slovakia there are places where they know how to serve you and are happy to do it, and that (perhaps someday) this will be the standard and not the exception.
Well, let's not lose hope. Hopefully we will be able to find another place where we will feel just as good or the owners will change their mind that we do not deserve to be imprisoned visitors and return everything to the way it was.
For now – Adieu, Chez Balzac, honor to your memory.
