During our trip to Budapest, we had the opportunity to stop at the wooden inn Koliba u sv. Kristofa, located on the main road in Banská Bystrica.
The interior of this restaurant is a real journey back in time. The central point of the room is a large fireplace, which adds a unique charm to the place. The decor of the walls reflects the atmosphere of an old mountain inn - with a boar's head and folk costumes. Additionally, waiters dressed in folk costumes complete the authentic impression.
The food deserves a separate mention. The ribs, which once won an award, were delicious - soft, juicy and full of flavor. The deer medallions were equally well prepared and the chef's special exceeded our expectations.
To sum up, Koliba u sv. Kristofa is the perfect place for a break in your journey. A place that combines a unique atmosphere with excellent food and friendly service. We definitely recommend it and we will definitely come back!

We stopped here for our last dinner in Slovakia and were glad we did. It was a Saturday night and we did not book and it was not a problem. We were quite early though, it may have been a problem later. The setting is beautiful and warm with the fire in the middle. We had the local goulash with dumplings which was excellent and prepared very quickly.

The best time to visit is Friday, 6:00 p.m. as there is a folk music performance. The place itself is very authentic with traditional Slovak food. We had roast lamb and it was very good. Reservation is recommended! Outside Koliba, there is a small shop selling sheep's milk products: bryndza, korbacky, fresh and smoked cheese, etc. I also highly recommend it to try and buy.

On the menu, they offer vegan gnocchi, which are actually not vegan. Dumplings are mixed with lard and instead of classic bryndza, there is kesu bryndza. The waiter told me this information when I wanted to order the food and asked what they used to grease the gnocchi. When I asked him why they marked it as vegan, so I don't have normal bryndza. A classic here in Slovakia, vegetarians and vegans often have a problem in restaurants. And I was looking forward to the fact that finally some hut thinks about us too. Disappointment

Really unbelievable experience. The people in the kitchen can do anything but if the restaurant represents this kind of service, it's really sad. The food tastes really good. But when I saw the staff and unoforunately for them I sat at the first table so I was listening them- I was speechless.
-they spoke about the guest in really ugly way using curses words.
- they brought me the main course when I was in half of the soup (of course without sorry or anything)
- no interest, no smile, no sympathy at work
- they were shouting about who wants coffee now and who is going to do this or that table.
- no ,,thank you" no ,,please" no ,,sorry"
One of the worst service in Slovakia.
Please visit other restaurant in the middle of Slovakia

We spent the morning in Donovaly main attractions and at lunch time we were looking for local traditional food place. Not satisfied with tourist place in Donovaly, we decided to take the car and we discovered Koliba Kristofa. Great Slovak tasty food in a lovely wood style place.
The waiters are all dressed up in traditional folk costumes while serving.
The service is great and fast and again food is so special.
I really recommend this place and suggest to take car and drive few km if you are staying/spending a day in Donovaly.

It is the second year we are in Donovaly area and we could not miss this typical Slovak food restaurant.
Great service, delicious food as usual and excellent value for money. I cannot stop to suggest this place to other friends in the area.
Very pleasant experience.

There were five of us together. I ordered halusky and also some kind of sauerkraut been soup. All was fabulous. Other people in our group ordered varied dishes. Everyone was happy with their food. The service was excellent and the place looked very nice and clean. The bathrooms were very nice. Price wasn't bad either. Plenty of parking and easy access to the restaurant, I don't think there were stairs, maybe just one. I loved the way staff was dressed. It was great. I wish I could go again! By the way that soup I ordered was fantastic. Need to get recipe for it. If you go by, be sure to stop by. I don't think you will be disappointed and I am not sure what was happening the other times when people left not that great of reviews. I can say in our case: Thank you to them for sure! We all were starving and they fed us well. :)

This was a planned stop on our Eastern European tour last year. They were prepared for our bus with reserved tables. Great service, local owner had a distinctly British accent, her staff was great. Food and atmosphere were amazing. Fried potatoes in duck fat sticks out as very tasty. Beer and lunch was a totally great experience. Lots of locals there. Staff dress and building made it a great tourist stop. Fantastic memories.

I was there with my wife and 3 years old daughter and after to hours car trip She got sick and vomitted a little bit on a carpet. I have apologized and they have given me bucket with a mop to clean it. Never again, sry, very embarassing.
