I was there with my friends. It is a unique place regarding interior, service and food sortiment in general but our totally international team could choose from the options for sure. If you not prefer the ruin pub type of locals maybe it is not your place but otherwise it is great to visit. For me the prices were quite... More

chose the place as it was next door to where I stayed, not a good idea... sticky tables, did not see them cleaned during the time i spent there. ashtrays full, again never cleaned. dont wait and expect someone will approach you - need to ask the waiter to bring the menu, take the order, etc. no flexibility to alter... After a such relaxing afternoon in the budapest thermal baths we wanted to have a good meal on this restaurant that was recommended by friends. Maybe the problem is that we had high expectations but still it was not good experience. We wanted to order couple of things in the menu and every choice we picked they didn't have available... very informal, it has a mixed choice of traditional and international dishes, nice wine list and some good beers. sometimes there are concerts, on the walls, paintings and photographs of hungarian artists.

We wanted to have a latr lunch on the day we arrived Budapest but they were closing for the day (Sunday). We went back again for dinner a few days back. The foods were great. It was exactly how the others had recommened from Tripadvisor. The beer was cheap too (compare to where I came from). Overall a must visit... More

Definitely one of the best local restaurants. If you are looking for real Hungarian food at a low price, this is the place. For lunch or dinner. The food is absolutely delicious!!!! We ate there a few times and they are always innovating the menu.. trying new dishes, which people love!

We enjoyed our last dinner at Castro Bistro, and couldn't been happier! We shared a 'meat meat meat', and just..Oh my god! Extremely tasty food and wine, for a small amount of money. Loved it. Definitely coming back next time we're in Budapest!

This bistro is really a gem of a find. We arrived Budapest in the evening and were already famished. We stepped out of our hotel ready to get lost while looking for a place to have dinner only to find out that Castro is a few steps away. Each order is very tasty and delicious. I especially loved the elk... More

We found this bistro by chance (it was very close to our hotel) and we decided to try it also because full of customers! Delicious Hungarian dishes, authentic and cosy place, not for tourists but mainly chosen by locals...excellent choice!

Castro Bistro is one of the legendary community places in Budapest. During the day it's a nice cosy place serving delicious daily menu - in the evenings it turns into a spontaneous and vibrant party. We have a wide selection of palinka and the short drinks will be measured the old fashioned way, 3 cl and 5 cl. A variety of international homemade dishes is on the menu. The kitchen is open until 11pm, but soups can be ordered until 11:30 pm. The daily menu is available from 12:00 am. We open exhibitions on a monthly basis and our little stage is available for live concerts. We have baby chair and a changing table. Bikers would find a pump and other tools. Bowls are ready to serve our furry friends when they are thirsty.Summertime we open a big sunny terrace. The place is air conditioned. Free Wi-Fi is available for our guests.

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
