We have visited the cafe with two small children. The service was very good, the staff was very helpful. There is big variety of cakes and coffee. The place is tidy and quite (except when you are there with children :)) and the cakes and coffee is excellent.

Visited for a business lunch. First time here. Excellent pike perch for main course. Grand old style restaurant near the shopping district of Vaci utca. Staff were ok, not particularly welcoming.

You don't go to Central for the food or drinks. You can find better all over Budapest. BUT if you want a perfectly preserved glimpse into Hungary's cafe life past, you can't do better. Even Szamos and Gerbaud can't compete. The interior of this cafe reminds me of a time when form was still more important function. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Stopped in for a warming coffee to shelter from the rain. What a find! It's beautiful...I could sit here all day and watch the world go by. Highly recommend the orange cheesecake! Real charm and good service.

Not touristy, and you get a good selection of traditional Hungarian pastries and foods. The main draw is the style. I preferred it to the fancier and more ostentatious cafes.

What a charm! Came across this place on a late evening after a busy day travelling. Brilliant service, main meal was a real surprise, great flavour combinations, decor is extremely elegant and this cafe had some of the best variety of mini cakes and desserts I have seen. Highly recommend.

A beautiful caffe in central Budapest with a gorgeous look and feel, Central has a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries as well as a reasonably priced menu of beautifully prepared food. Go for Sunday brunch and relax over the newspaper (or iPad!) as I did, truly a gem in the town.

We had breakfast here twice. The menu offers lovely healthy options. The food is well presented and very tasty. Staff are very friendly and attentive. A little pricey when compared with other places but well worth the little extra spend. The decor is like stepping back into the 1930s. Would highly recommend visiting it was well worth it taking in... More

We were visiting Budapest and wanted a late-night drink. There was a string trio playing and lots of outdoor tables open. We ordered wine and cocktails. Waiters were attentive--one of them even gave us a card that offered a 20% discount if we came back for a meal the next day. We didn't have the time, or we would have... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
