The food was OK although the portions were small as usually in fine dining restaurants. The biggest surprise came in the bill: two separate service charges were added, which were in total 14000 HUF! They expained that the other one was for the drinks and the other was for the food. None of these were mentioned in the menu. So... More

After a 12km walk through Budapest and visiting the Citadel we decided to pop into this place spontaneously. Admittedly underdressed, we were nevertheless welcomed professionally and seated next to the window with a nice view over the Danube and Houses of Parliament. We had champagne, liver, snapper, steak and a local desert for lunch, the latter accompanied by a glass... More

Had dinner with 3 other couples at this location, food and drinks were great but the view was the best part. We arrived and hour before sunset and watched the Danube light up!

How is this restaurant not in the top 5 in Budapest, just stunning. Not cheap but the style location , atmosphere and staff, faultless. 3hour extravaganza of food, wine and discussion. There are times when 5 is not high enough a score, a must try if you can get in.

We only used the part of the restaurant that is a cafe for tourists, part of the Fisherman's Bastion, so beautiful views of the Danube and the Parliament. It's semi-open air so smoking is allowed, and we were relieved when our waitress moved us away from a cigar smoker. We had a couple of local beers, rested and relaxed, the... More

Halászbástya has been on my radar for a while and with the restaurant week (3 course menu for a cheap 5K HUF) I didn't have to spend a fortune to try it. The restaurant is in a very unique location, inside the tower of Fisherman's Bastion. It's a historical and beautiful building both inside and outside, with a great view... More

This restaurant has an amazing setting overlooking the Danube and Pest. Beautiful interior. Service was excellent. A couple of issues stopped this being a 5 star rating. Firstly, there is an excellent violin player who comes to each table, spoilt at the end by trying to sell his cd's. In a restaurant of this quality and price it was rather... More

Incredible views and great prices. I had the entree of tuna, the main of venison and dessert of some fabulous local thing. Plus a gorgeous local wine. The sommelier knew it all and supplied something that was pretty hard to stop drinking. Perhaps book a table if you want to go as I wasn't near the window. I have to... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
