We had a wonderful meal here last week, the service was impeccable, the food amazing and the wine, well it was probably a highlight! We chose the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings for lunch. The food was prepared to a stunning standard, the service was great, not intrusive in any way. The setting of the restaurant was great... More

My partner and I had the most wonderful dining experience at Onyx. We had the eight-course chef's menu and received four more surprise courses, and even a little box containing sweet delicacies to take home with us. The service was impeccable and even though staff observed the decorum you would expect at this type of Michelin star restaurant, service never... More

We heard about the place in advance and we loved the experience it was well worth the visit - with an amazing modern twist on Hungarian cuisine it allowed you to fine dine but not miss out on tradition. The waitstaff and sommelier were very friendly and did an excellent job. The food was lovely and we came out very... More

We dined at Onyx whilst spending a few days in Budapest on our honeymoon. The food was fantastic and well worth the above average price for a Budapest restaurant. It cost considerably less than you would pay for a comparable meal in global cities such as London or Hong Kong.

Expect good but somewhat reserved service here in this nicely decorated restaurant which offers very fine food. We had the eight course Chef Menu with wine pairing. Black salsify, cod, rillettes ball (I still don’t know what it is), trout roll, goulash soup, venison, quince and a combination of blueberry ice cream and white chocolate for dessert. Everything was very... More

You could hear your own breath in this restaurant! Couples whisper and the waiting staff are very softly spoken. However you could soon get over this deadly silence and posh once you've tried the homemade breads. Unique, freshly baked and dangerous as you'd fill up on them if you're not careful! The portions of our tasting menu were absolutely spot... More

This is Budapest's only Michelin star restaurant and it was worth every penny. We had the 8 course Chef menu with the wine paired. The Maître d' was very good and pleasant, and made us feel very welcome. The Sommelier was excellent as well as very knowledgeable on his wines. We had the opportunity to meet with chef Ádám Mészáros... More

Dear Mac, thank you very much for your review! We are happy that you liked our menu and the wine pairings. It may be worth to mention that there are also other Michelin-starred restaurants in Budapest, though we tend to get the most points from guides like Gault&Millau, for example. We went to Onyx, Costes Downtown, Déryné (twice) and 21 during our brief, 3 night stay in Budapest. The last two we can highly recommend. Fabulous food, great atmosphere, friendly service. Don't miss the túrógombóc at Déryné; it is light, fluffy, delightful. Both Restaurants are a sure bet. Onyx. Comes with A Michelin star and a 3 start price tag.... More

Great value for a Michelin star restaurant. Even with wine pairing, I believe the total bill ran under $200 per person. The wine pairing for the second dish - Goose liver, pistachio, Granny Smith - was unique and a pleasant surprise. The smell was of a heavy swert honey, but the texture and taste was nothing like it. Anyways, if... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
