Yummy traditional Czech food!

During our walking tour, we asked the guide where to find good Czech food, and Pegas is the place she most highly recommended. We are so glad she did! We loved the food and our server was very kind and spoke English. The food was delicious and so filling. I had a plate that I ordered by the photo. I see a lot of people posted it on here, lots of meat, bread, salad, mustard, and horseradish. Yum! My husband had steak with a mushroom sauce and boiled potatoes that our server recommended. He loved it too. He even surprised each of us with a complimentary slice of cheesecake at the end of our meal. I would definitely go back.

a solid choice for an old style Czech pivo bar

These places are shrines. They need to be kept alive. Sure, there's new cuisine and new types of beer, but this stuff is the backbone of the Czech historical food scene. Our first waiter was a bit old world and sullen, but suitable, but fortunately the owner or manager or some such came out with our food to help and was very pleasant. Menu's in English as well. Good - very good - pils brewed on site. Goulash, sausage, salads for dinner, all very good. Certainly didn't come away hungry. This stuff isn't going to win any awards, but it was plentiful and solid. The sausages were superb. BTW at least right now the value of eating in CZ is amazing. We were there for a week, including a day in Prague, and the most we spent was at a high end restaurant in Prague - $58. Most of the places in Brno were under $30, and that often included up to 4 beers, entrees, and occasionally an appetizer.

Our go to place for local food and beer

We had dinner here last night with my husband’s co workers. We also ate here on our last visit 4 years ago. I ordered the Pork loin. It was so tender and tasty that it easily peeled off the bone. The serving is big and good for sharing. Comes with 4 slices of bread. My husband ordered the Pegas Ghoulash and their beer and he both liked it. All our other friends enjoyed their orders. Service was quick and efficient. We asked if we can pay separately and we didn’t have any problems. Food was reasonably priced. Would come back on our next visit.

"Eco-friendly" lunch

Bunch of young students went in Pegas to have a lunch because we heard its good place and they have really good local food. The thing that they didnt mention is fact that Pegas is really eco-friendly place. Example, I ordered famous pork ribs and when they came, after 25min of waiting, they werent fresh, they were re-heated. Obviously they had it prepared before by mistake and decided to give it to one young student which is totally acceptable because with that move they avoided throwing a food. Next situation is my friend who ordered grilled cheese and after 20 minutes, waiter approached him and told him "sorry, no cheese, but shnicle is best". My friend, calm guy, accepted the offer and just half minute later got himself a "fresh", half hour old shnicel which was also made by mistake and was given to naive student. Again, totally understandable because we are against food waste. Rest of crew was semi satisfied, but didnt want to make any scene. Good job Pegas, really good job. Never throw away cold food you prepared by mistake, there will always be some foreign students! Cheers

Not as good as the first time I was here

My previous trip to Brno this place was the best czech food I’ve encountered. This last trip the food was super salty, cabbage was off, and portion size of meat was small. Maybe Covid has had a bad effect on their business? Extremely disappointed as I had talked this place up. Next visit I’ll be seeking something else.

I was really disappointed by this restaurant, considering it has pretty decent reviews here. My impression is that this place is a kind of a tourist trap because the portions are really small and expensive. And the food isn’t even that good. Anyway not a good value for your money. There are much better options out there.

Great beer and food, but......

We visited for dinner. The food was good and the beer brewed on site (I had the Helles) was great. But the service was not so good. The server was very focused on a large group and everyone else seemed an inconvenience. Shame - I liked the place.

Average czech brewery

Overall: will not visit again, possible to pay with card, classic czech brewery atmosphere, price is good for the city centre, we paid 500czk (20€) for 2 main courses and a drink. All in all it fulfilled my expectations but it didn't amaze us. Food: tasty just as expected, 4/5. Orders were quick (time of visit 17:00) Service: I would appreciate a more welcoming approach but the waiter covered orders and our needs. Again, nothing above our expectations. 3/5

Good Czech food

We have had a good Czech dinner at this restaurant, with traditional food and tasty dishes: we tried the pork knee, the garlic soup, local cheese, and so on. If compared to other restaurants that we tried in Brno, we had the impression that this one was a little bit more popular among tourists than among loca people. However, we liked the big dishes, even though the prices are a little bit high. We didn’t find a wide variety of desserts, there were only two cakes in the menu and we didn’t find typical Brno desserts here. A good aspect: they translated their menu in English

the place got worse

I was a regular customer for about 5 years ,. My last visit was around 2019 . so i decide it i wanted to give it a try, again . As i entered the main room there was a disgusting smell of toilet drain that stayed all the time of my dinner. I picked ribs from the menu . The portion was much smaller that what i used to have before and the quality of the meat was absolutely bad . It tasted old and there was a high percentage of fat .The bread was dated . Beer is the only thing that stayed the same . Very disappointing come back

Czech tavern

Arrived late and kitchen was closing. They where helpful enough to give us some of the standard dishes and the 2 of us shared one portion that was served in a jiff. Very fair priced and super local atmosphere. Genuine feeling. This spot is a tavern, not a high class restaurant.

Educate your waiters !!!

It was great płace in a past but now because of the one of the waiters it is completely unpleasant. I want to emphasize that this negative review is caused solely by one of the waiters not by all of them. I suggest to hire more composed and professional ones. For now I’m forced to look for a different restaurant in Brno.

Czech food and good beer

In the centre of the city, this pub seems to offer good solid Czech food (not an enormous choice). The beer selection is good. Dark beers were particularly tasty. The service was also good and the waiter spoke English. However, big downside, the smell of smoke was very intense, probably due to the pre-entrance part, where it was possible to smoke. If it was a temporary problem, we were unlucky, otherwise it's a big shortcoming, especially for a family visit. Considering the price, location and quality, it would deserve a better attention to this point.

Wife had the duck breast, which happened to be the worst duck eaten in our European holiday. I had the 1kg of Pork knuckle which was more like 250grams . An absolute tourist trap rip off. Only decent thing that came out was the beer.

Great place for a drink and food

No trip to Brno - and we usually come twice a year - is complete without a visit here. We love the service, the food and the beer. The atmosphere is lively and you are surrounded by people having a good time. It's always busy so reserving a table may be advisable
