By a lucky coincidence, our short stay in Prague partly coincided with that of a colleague of my partner. So we agreed to have dinner together with her husband and they took us to this inconspicuous restaurant housed in what was probably a cellar and which of that environment has preserved both the architecture at times and the dark but charming atmosphere.
Again, we chose typical local dishes, with some variations on meats and side dishes, drawing from the wide choice of beers that are the absolute protagonists of every self-respecting Czech meal.
The evening was pleasantly spent chatting and sipping beer and ended in the nearby Wenceslas Square, which is actually more like a long pedestrianised boulevard surrounded by shops.
As always, the bill paid was modest when compared to Italian prices: this is the main reason why the majority of Czechs want to keep the krona and will never want to switch to the euro.

To go to this place I recommend you book, the service is very efficient so you might still find a place but at least avoid waiting for a long time. The quality/price ratio is excellent, there are several choices on the menu and, my sister and I, who are eternally undecided, ultimately opted for "menu" dishes which included more dishes. We were impressed by the speed of the service, but above all by the quality of the dishes, truly exceptional. Furthermore, the environment is simple but very characteristic and, what is no small feat, they accept payment with pos without problems. Overall, highly recommended.

How wonderful... a dinner in a medieval tavern, an unforgettable experience. The restaurant is located in the Jewish ghetto not far from the astronomical clock, Wenceslas Square etc. The wooden door goes unnoticed (and I already like this), you have to know where it is and what to look for; you go down a staircase lit by candles and inside the light is low and there are candles lit everywhere. Wooden tables, vaulted stone ceilings, terracotta dishes, it feels like taking a step back in time. I ate the best goulash of my life, and four of us had dinner for just over €60, definitely a great price. All the dishes (and the dark beer on tap) that we had deserve an excellent review, and also the waiter, who was very kind and friendly (leaving a tip is recommended and it is right to leave it). But in addition to the food, this place is worth it for the atmosphere, decidedly "old Prague", outside the circuit of the most tourist restaurants and different from anything I have ever tried before. I absolutely recommend it.

Compared to the rave reviews, I was disappointed both in the food but especially in the service. I had a pork schnitzel: both the meat and the side were tasteless. But the worst thing was the feeling of being inside a tourist-plucking machine with a tip of 12% that practically buckle you (such is the speed of the explanation of the bill is the presentation of the pos), as for the feeling that the waiters treat you with irony and sufficiency. Honestly you can find much better!

A little off the beaten track, and down below street level, this is a real hidden gem - with a cozy atmosphere enhanced by candles and fur throws.
The music comes courtesy of some decent rock classics, and the menu is expansive, cheap, filling, and of a high quality.
We had the meat sharer selection with a side of the "smelly" beer cheese, a couple of beers each - and did not leave hungry. Neither did we leave with empty wallets, I think the whole thing equated to less than £40.
When I come back to Prague this will be high up my list of places to return to.

We went to this restaurant because it was reported among those with the best value for money.
You actually pay very little, but the quality of the food is really low.
We ordered the classic local soup, but it was nothing special. We then took the 1.2kg pork knee: the meat (very fatty and partly stubby) and vegetables were tasteless, we ate them just because we had ordered them by now. As a side dish we had ordered some fries but they never arrived.
The service is without infamy and without praise.
It is a shame because the place could be enhanced much more, given the very particular location, but sincerely we would recommend other restaurants that deserve much more.

Beware!! We stopped for an evening meal and were seated upstairs. Whilst a nice venue, the head waiter was extremely pushy and rather rude because we ordered beer, suggesting we order a bottle wine with dinner. We were shown a menu with pasta, fish and steak dishes only to be told when seated with drinks - only steak was available for a main course. Opted to share, we ordered a steak with a side of green beans and potatoes. Very small, tiny, portions of veg arrived with steak. This meal was in no way special, the meat was incredibly gristly and not cooked as ordered, took A very long time to chew! The bill arrived - £200! For one course and two drinks. The meat is charged PER 100g, please be aware of this. This put a real downer on our evening, The restaurant manager simply advised meat is expensive in Prague (which isn't true, already had the best steak ever elsewhere at a great price). Be very cautious, don't go upstairs to Relativity Steakhouse unless you are prepared to pay excess cash for sub standard food.

Very nice place, accessed from an almost hidden entrance, you go down a few steps and a medieval style room opens up. Candles, wood, exposed beams, all very suggestive. As for the cuisine, very good typical dishes, generous portions and excellent quality beer. The honey cake for dessert is also good, average prices, like in many other places a percentage of the total is applied as a 'mandatory tip', certainly a highly recommended stop for a good dinner in Prague

The restaurant, although a bit hidden, is very particular aesthetically: it looks like a medieval tavern with soft lights and candles to recreate the atmosphere. The food is traditional Czech meat, really very tasty and especially at a very good price. The best thing, in my opinion, is the service: the waiter, Dušan, speaks very good English, Italian and other languages, is very friendly and friendly with the customers (in fact he had a very pleasant conversation with us) and manages to put them at ease. Very highly recommended place.

I'm having a bit of difficulty reviewing this restaurant. I went there after reading a review on a blog in which it was described as non-touristy (I was really looking for a typical Czech place but not for massive tourism), good quality and inexpensive. I found a place that was characteristic but where it was incredibly hot, you couldn't breathe (probably the Czechs are not used to this infernal heat, in fact almost no one has air conditioning systems). The dishes are discreet but identical to those of another so-called typical restaurant which later turned out to be ultra-touristy. It seems that the dishes are all pre-packaged and warmed up... all the same... in fact they arrived immediately... a bit like with us when you go to the most well-known mountain huts or refuges in the Dolomites.
All in all you can eat but you can see that there is no customization. It's cheap, it's true... so the quality/price ratio is balanced.
In short, I was looking for something else, I was looking for a place where Czechs go to eat and this place isn't like that, but I don't feel like denigrating it completely because after all the dishes can be eaten.

The staff were friendly and the drinks were brought very quickly. With my son's knowledge of English, the desired dishes, which had a certain rustic character, were ordered very quickly. They were then served without a long wait. The dishes were well prepared and we really enjoyed them. We were also satisfied with the price/performance ratio.
When visiting this restaurant, you should make a reservation in advance.

We dined well, friendly staff despite not having the reservation, they made us sit..looks like an ancient stone and wood tavern, very quaint. Good food and beer. Prices in the norm , slightly less than Italy .. We took a shank in 2 , chips , a soup and 3 beers , for a total of 35 euros including the tip

It was our first time in Prague and the restaurant was recommended to us by a "local".
The entrance is special and leads into a cellar vault, which is unusual at first glance. We found space, despite having a dog, which we thought was great.
The menu is clear and has something for everyone, from hearty Czech cuisine to grass-fed... errrr "vegetarians"
Our waiter Vlada was friendly and attentive and even brought water for our dog without being asked.
The food came quickly and was really tasty, the dog was super tender and the mustard sauce was amazing 🙌
All in all, an unexpectedly good meal, but perhaps not for everyone or all the fancy customers from Prada, Cartier, etc. from the side street.
Conclusion: Something different, but tasty 👌

The place was nice and had a great feel to it.
Wasn’t overly busy but the service after the first order practically stopped.
I ordered the pork (small version) with red cabbage and bread which was ok but honestly it wasn’t fantastic and I was a little disappointed. The beer was great however.
It was a stinking hot day and it was a bit uncomfortable inside as a result of no AC. Which I acknowledge is a bit rare for Prague.
Most people seem to have had a great experience here and it was recommended to us so dont let one review put you off. I always give second chances so if I go back, would update my review but I felt there are better places to try.
Another table had the 1.2kg pork knee which looked phenomenal. I wanted to try it but it was a bit too much for me to eat on my own - unfortunately my partner is a vegetarian.
My parter had the fried camembert which she described as ordinary. Apparently the grilled is better. Both our dishes had very minimal sized portions of the “main dish” i.e Camembert and Pork but the plates were full of potato/bread so I didn’t feel it was a great ratio.

This is a must visit in what I think is a largely boring food city. It's in a cavern like basement that's not easily seen from street level. The food was the highlight of my visit. I had the roasted sausage as an appetizer that comes with mustard and a huge portion of freshly grated horseradish. It was superb and could have been my full lunch. The svericka was the best I've ever had. This popular Czech dish is a piece of pot roast-like beef with a slice of sweet-sour orange on top of it, all of which is then topped with a dollop of whipped cream on the orange. Yes, that's right. It is then served with an amazing sauce made from roasted root vegetables. Don't even think of visiting Prague without trying it. We also had the equally great duck with red cabbage. Both locals and tourists (mostly French) were there. Someone had what looked like a stunning serving of pork knuckle (offputtingly called "pork knee" in Prague) that I'll try next time. There are tons of bad food in central Prague and equally bad Italian restaurants. Why eat there when you have this? Service is a bit abrupt but respectful and efficient.

Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
