On our 6th visit to Prague, we finally visited this classic haunt. We are tried on Monday but it was packed with locals by 4:30. So Tuesday we arrived around 4 and found it much less crowded. All tables were reserved but most reservations were for later in the evening. The beer man indicated we could sit by him and... More

I feel that it may be unfair to give it a 1 star because we never drank in there as the title says we walked in and it was packed and full of smoke - you could hardly see. The reason I think its unfair is because we are not smokers and especially coming from the UK we are not... More

We sat down and were about to discuss what we wanted when the waiter put 2 pints of beer on front of us and walked off. We thought that strange and soon realised the pub only seemed to serve food and this 1 beer. We started drinking and realised that it was a beer only pub. The beer was very... More

To visit Prague and not to come to the Tygra bar would be like going to a festival and not hearing any music. The beer is the freshest in the world and free flowing. It's cheap, it's an amazing atmosphere and you truly feel you are being treated to a quintessentially Czech masterclass in hospitality. BUT, beware, it is very... More

Communal tables, beer refills without request, straight-shooter waiters, and the food not too bad. It's a place to take break from the day, drink a beer or two or three, strike up a conversation with a new acquaintance and there you have it: Czech hospitality.

This is true Czech beer culture! According to a local friend the best place for Pilsner in the town. This is where you really will meet locals. No reservation possible, very limited chance for getting a place in the evening. Better be there late afternoon. And be aware of the local habit: The waiter will bring you the next beer... More

Found this beer hall in a guidebook. No flashy signs outside, easy to walk past and miss the doorway. It opens its door at 3.00pm every day, on the day we visited there was a queue in the street of about 10-12 people. We were shown to a table and the house beer was quickly delivered to the table. The... More

This little gem of a beer hall is located in the heart of the Old Town not far from Charles Bridge. Yes, smoking is allowed and you will stink for a day after dining there. Yes, staff have slightly brisk manners and might not be too tourist friendly. Yes, if you're looking for intimacy or for attentive and caring service... More

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
