Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Average meal out. The service was great, place was fairly empty and reminded me more of a school canteen than a restaurant. A few table cloths would make it more inviting. The starter was great and food was fine. Nothing exciting but ok. The salt...and chilli chips are just chilli sauce out of a bottle poured on chips which was amusing.More

12 of us stayed here on Saturday 10th of September. 5 Twin Rooms, 2 Singles. Sandra and her team met us upon arrival and couldnt have been more helpful. Rooms were spotless, Like new to be honest. Nice and warm but also well ventilated. Desks...etc in rooms so no problem catching up on emails etc on the laptop. Bathrooms and Showers also excellent. We had breakfast at 9am and it could only be described as a breakfast for champions. Lots of choice on offer for breakfast too. Staff again very helpful. A nice relaxed vide in the morning for breakfast where our 12 were served the one time no problem. Great central location beside the pubs if you fancy a beer or 2. They also have a bar in their restaurant. Food is Great, accommodation excellent. Very nice Team there. Perfect for anyone thinking about playing Ballyliffin Golf Courses too.More

We ate here on the 2nd day of our stay , we wished we had come the night before as the takeaways in the town were awful (Bridge st. and chinese garden) Food was good in the beansprout, probably a bit over priced but it...was decent. The beansprout burger was really good and the t-bone was cooked well. Things they could improve on is to make the sides thing with the meals a little less confusing. We both ordered chips and recieved chunky chips which were not great as they were not cooked enough..if we had been giving the option of skinny fries we would have chosen them. My partners onion rings with the steak were very bland no flavour off the onions or batter. They should also display their prices on the specials board. Other then that we would probably returnMore

We stayed here for 1 night on 8th August while visiting some relations. I was very impressed with the remodeling from a bank building to a B&B with a restaurant right in the centre of Carndonagh. We had a lovely room which was very clean,...a good bathroom with a big walk-in shower, tea and coffee facilities also. There was a small lounge where you could sit and read the paper or do your ironing as there was an ironing board and iron provided! Next morning we had breakfast in the large restaurant before it opened to the public and the food was very tasty especially the sausages!! The owners have retained the old safe door from the bank which is a nice touch. There is also a guest carpark at the back of the property. We enjoyed our short stay and would recommend and hopefully be back again.More

I was doing a tour around Donegal and the north on my motorbike with no particular route in mind. It was about lunch time so looked for somewhere to eat on my nav and found this place. Food was excellent (big slab of salmon) as...was the service. Highly recommend a visit.More

Recently visited the Butterbean for brunch. Ordered food, food came and I didn’t receive the tea that was included in the price - the toast wasn’t edible, it was worse than burnt. As a young person I felt that I was treated differently, with no...care, people who were older that came in were checked in on halfway through their meal but I was not. Will not be back, very disappointing as a visitor to Carndonagh!More

Fabulous place for food in Carndonagh, we went for lunch and loved it so much we went back for dinner! Has all the classics like burgers, chips ect but we got the roast of the day (turkey and ham) at lunch time and then for...dinner we had the breast of chicken on mashed potatoe with pepper sauce (which came with another side of choice) and a burger and chips. Both were divine! Staff were very helpful and friendly too. Would highly recommend!More

We were in the area for new year getaway and as it was New Years eve we were very doubtful of getting a place that could accomodate 6 people for dinner. We stopped in Carndonagh to see what was there and came across the Butterbean,...Lovely warm and inviting from outside so we went in. We were met by a friendly waitress who seated us straight away. Restaurant was not that busy surprisingly . Menu was fantastic - something for everyone and with pescitarians, meat eaters and vegetarians in group thats not always easy to do! Food order was taken quickly and delivered even faster. Food was delicious - hot and tasty. Service was excellent. Recommend the butterbean burger and the veggie enchiladas - really good! We were surprised with the bill - it was very reasonable for what we got. We expected it to be alot more. If you are in the Inishowen area I highly recommend the Butterbean as a place to stop - atmosphere is great and food ever better!More

We decided to stop for lunch in Carndonagh whilst doing the Inishowen 100. We just happened to park across from the Butterbean and both agreed it looked like a nice place to eat. Great friendly welcome received as we walked in the door, took our...names for customer tracing and shown to our seats. They had a good varied menu for that time of the day from salads, sambos to hot food. I settled for the open prawn salad and the wife had the roast of the day. Both dishes were out in good time and nice portions too. Oh I also had a side of garlic potatoes whites were smothered in Garlic butter, if you love garlic you’ll love these. Service was impeccable. If we are up that direction again we’ll be sure to stol by for food.More
