Booked before arriving on the Island and managed to get a booking for a Friday night. Menu looked appetising with approximately 10 starters, all of which were less than $20, and four of these could have been upsized to main meals. In addition there were...a further four mains and a fish special. All of the mains were $40 or less. Dishes focus on using local and regionally sourced fresh food.
We both had as starters the chargrilled calamari with sweet corn, bacon and aioli. This dish was excellent with the calamari being fairly tender. As mains we had the fish special and the pork belly with mashed potatoes and coleslaw plus a side of salad. Both dishes were delicious.
The desserts also all sounded delicious but we were too full.
Wine list was small and interesting - one sparking, one rose, five whites, seven reds and a moscato with three from overseas and the rest mostly from Tasmania and South Australia. The most expensive bottle of wine was $49.
The restaurant is owned and run by a husband (chef) and wife (hostess and everything front of house) team. Both the chef, his kitchen staff and our hostess did an amazing job fielding takeaway orders via phone with pickups in person whilst managing the customers who were in the restaurant. We thought that the service was friendly, timely and efficient.
Recommended. We would definitely dine here again.More
What a place - very intimate with a great menu, fabulous service, very impressive drinks list and old silent movies playing in the background. One of our favourite experiences on King Island - the King Island steak for the main course was possibly one of...the best pieces of meat I have ever eaten and cooked to perfection. One of those meals you never want to end and a restaurant you don't want to leave.More
Visited King Island for 7 days in November and ate at Oleada twice.
I just couldn't fault anything. Excellent service, ambience and food.
The four of us all had superb meals on both visits. The Garlic Prawns entree was so good. A very generous serving...of 8 large prawns! Delicious.
We all had the 'special' Chicken Kiev one evening. Magnificent. So tender, cooked to perfection with plenty of garden vegetables accompanying the meal.
I had the Duck dish on the other evening. A generous serving with the most wonderful accompanying sauce and vegetables.
Oleada is a small intimate restaurant so bookings are essential. I booked 3 weeks ahead. They offer a take away service too.More
We had dinner and enjoyed the experience.
We shared our very fresh seafood entrees (octopus and calamari) and 3 of us had a good sirloin with good sauces. One of our group had a pasta which they didn’t totally love, but it was still good....Good service, and very reasonably priced. Glad we went.More
If visiting King Island and you enjoy good food, then a visit to Oleada is a must. The Smoked Duck Gnocchi was simply stunning, the lightest and best prepared gnocchi I have ever tasted. Followed by a scallop spaghetti mains that was equally superb, again...wonderful hand made pasta. Very good value for money. A memorable meal. Compliments to the chef and staff.More
4 of us dined at Oleada after 27 holes of golf. My entree of seared scallops was perfect, scallops were caramelised but just cooked on the inside. Porterhouse was again perfectly cooked and was an extremely tasty piece of beef. The others also very much...enjoyed their steaks, duck and octopus salad.
A wonderful dining experience.More
