We recently had a lovely meal in the private dining room called the smugglers it was perfect with a young child as he was contained, the food was really nice and very tasty! Overall a fab experience we shall be returning, the crown also has a big open fire which is lovely the staff were so friendly and welcoming and... More

Eight family members went for Sunday lunch and the food (Sunday roast) and the service were both good. Plenty of other customers in the restaurant and a friendly atmosphere with helpful staff. Four of us went for lunch on the following Wednesday. Although we were the only customers in the restaurant when we arrived we had to wait an hour... More

Was travelling with family including 2 young kids. Service was prompt and food was hot and sumptuous! Highly recommend the soup in the bread cob. Good vegetarian options and right across from the Groombridge Place.

Popped in on a Sunday for a roast. As we parked up there was a funny smell in the carpark which should have warned us away. The large plate of food served was swimming in gravy and smelt very odd, like cheese. Everything on the plate tasted the same, like this smell. It was the worst roast we have ever... More

I just love a good Ploughman's Lunch with the accompanying relishes/chutney. I have eaten other offerings from this menu and I do have a soft spot for a good burger and they come close to some of those as seen on Guy Fieri's travels around the USA eateries. Good place to sit outside on a hot summer's day and enjoy... More

My parents booked a table here for my Birthday. It is a beautiful location and the Pub itself is lovely, but that is where it stopped for me. The menu was very limited for my personal pallet, the service was slow and the food was very very ordinary. 3 adults had the scampi and 1 adult had the gammon. Everyone... More

We were staying in the village with the kids. Went to pub a weekday early evening. Very warm welcome and nice restaurant. Food was perfectly adequate not gastro pub quality but good pub grub. Bit shocked at some other reviews which do not reflect our experience.

The service was slow and the food was terrible. We had fish and chips and I don't think either were homemade. The fish was very stale and the batter greasy and hard. Our kids couldn't even eat their chips which is a sure sign they weren't good! Maybe we picked an off day but it's safe to say that we... More

Really lovely location, looks like it should be a great village pub. So to minimise the risk, somewhere new, we opt for fish and chips. I can safely say I didn't know it was possible it get it so wrong. I feel like I have eaten a vat of oil, with a small bit of off fish. We have had... More

A little disappointed it has to be said. Closer to a carvery than a restaurant in terms of the quality of the roast potatoes and veg. Sunday nights they close at 9pm as well which was a massive surprise after we'd ordered drinks. It's lovely in the winter and would even say it's one of the best log fires to... More
