Enjoyed a wonderful meal while soaking up the eclectic/vintage atmosphere. So many quirky but tasteful things to look at! Friendly and helpful service. Loved the fig entree special and the licorice cheesecake lived up to all expectations. Will be back!

as you walk in to the front entrance, something seems to excite me then up we go to the restaurant. it was amazing ambience lovely little bar area. and then looked into the restaurant further, it was decorated with unique 50's to 60's type atmosphere. Bits here and bits there, on the wall too. Staff was friendly and obliging. Quick... More

This eclectic restaurant never seems to disappoint. A favourite with locals the quirky charms of old decor delight along with tasty food, a well stocked cocktail bar and the cheery warmth eluded from friendly staff. Situated in an old theatre, with occasional live music adds to the magical atmosphere. An iconic Katoomba experience.

Fantastic atmosphere and exceptional service. The food was amazing with the portions being generous. I cannot believe this restaurant is only 10th place. Defiantly worth a visit.

The venue is like another world (charming & quirky) and the staff are congenial. The main dining room has a massive grand window looking out over Katoomba. The food is good generous portioned traditional Australian food. They are more than a restaurant and host High teas, live music with cocktail bar and special events to name a few and are... More

The entrees was absolutely sad, stingy and cheap. For a large serving (26 dollars) for the platter/meat entree you get 4 pieces of bread, capers, small bits of eggplant, shaved unknown cheese and 1 slice of prosciutto. Terrible. Main dish salmon (same cut you find at Coles) served with huge potatoes and a load of rocket. This dish is 30... More

The decor is interesting but the food poor. The waitress was inflexible. We asked for plain bread but was told it was not available. Had to have what was offered. All meals seem to come with chips so, not wanting chips asked for potatoes. Was told we could have rosemary potatoes. We thought they would be plain but when they... More

A lot of places try to be quirky but it feels forced. Not so here, it is truly unique from the space to the way the staff dress. It still feels like being in an old cinema. But the highlight was the food, brilliant slow cooked lamb and really good sides. Tried licorice cheesecake on waitress' recommendation and was really... More

After living in Melbourne for a number of years, I became quite confident that no city in the world could provide such an eclectic and unique array of restaurants... until I moved to the Blue Mountains and found the Avalon! Such a delight! From the street you see what was once a quaint, old cinema foyer, including ticket booth! Up... More

Set in the historic Savoy picture theatre building, AVALON Restaurant and Cocktail Bar at Katoomba combines playful art-deco charm with hearty food, friendly service and spectacular Blue Mountains views. Located on main street Katoomba, enter the historic Savoy picture theatre foyer and make your way past the ticket booth and up the stairs. The restaurant inhabits the dress circle of the old theatre, and offers a decor of quirky retro finds and spectacular mountain views over Leura and the Jamison Valley. Meals are prepared in the old projection room, and cocktails and retro tunes are served in the former refreshment lounge, now a cosy bar complete with roaring fireplace. The art deco architecture is complemented by an eclectic collection of furnishings and artwork. The style of service is casual and friendly. Licensed and BYO wine.
