The sign on the door should read ‘WELCOME TO THE HOUSE OF HORRORS CAFE”. “Our daily special is abuse with a drizzle of evil”! I am the friend of the “Bizarre experience with staff –….” posting. This was my second visit to Salt Springs Island in March. First was a wonderful week with my husband, followed by four wonderful days... More

A friend and I just spent four lovely days on Salt Spring Island - enjoying the beauty of the island and the people living/visiting there. We visited several of the local businesses and were so impressed with their caring and warm welcome and friendliness. Then.....there was Morningside Organic. We were regretfully leaving the island to get back to our daily... More

Went to Hornby Island/Tofino before I hit Salt Spring Island. Met some hippie-ish people on Hornby Island and they swore by this place and said I should go hang around for a bit. Checked the reviews before I went in and I wasn't surprised by the polar opposite rating (168 excellent vs 68 terrible). It is a genuine hippie cafe,... More

We visited today and were very pleased! First off we thought it may be hard to find local vegan food since Salt Spring Island is small.. but this place was amazing and did not disappoint! Everything is vegan! They have a wide range of really cool and interesting books. The owner is clearly a hard worker and a dedicated vegan... More

We came inside leaving behind a somewhat rainy and grey day here on Salt Spring Island and found sunshine. Well of a sort. We fell in love with the quirky surroundings, the stumpy polished log tables and benches. And the young lady in charge, Manon, with her quick mischievous smile, is instantly likeable, too. We opted to share a bowl... More

A nice nook at Fulford Harbour: browse the books (good selection), try the cookies (excellent), chat to people (informative), and sit for a quick lunch if you have time. Rustic and unpretentious.

Love this place. I'd been here years ago and it still has it's Salt Spring charm. Love the combination of books and yummy drinks/food. This place was always where time began to slow down for me. You get off the ferry, go here and begin to slow down.

And it was food you can feel good about...the book store had a phenomenal collection of titles and authors spanning the globe, with an earth friendly focus.

I am a food writer, so am discerning about food, and this place was top-notch. The food showed inspiration and technical expertise, transforming vegan ingredients into meals that felt rich and filling.
