After a hike we wanted a good lunch and ended up at checkers cafe. The service was ok and the food was average but not filling enough. Good coffee! Nice garden - but still hungry.

We stop at Checkers café frequently and we have never been disappointed. The cooking is spot on, we love the savoury muffins and the cheese scones. The smoked fish hotpot is also a favourite. The coffee never fails to please. The staff at Checkers are...More
We had a lovely brunch here on a very sunny late Autumn morning. We felt we were back in Europe with the gorgeous landscaping, planters and pots, and the tree patterned courtyard. Brunch platter was generous and the experience very good, must go back again...More
With so many good lunch spots in Thames, this is certainly one to give a miss! A date scone with lumps of Bicarbonate of soda in it and a microwaved pie, that was meant to be steak and cheese, but was mostly mince and cheese....More

It's actually called Chequers Cafe but from the address, this is the same place ... between the Plumbers shop and the Cinemas. The four of us were heading to Hot Water Beach and were passing through Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula. We needed fuel so...More
Occasionally visit this cafe with friends, the food and coffee is in the range of average to good and the outdoor space at the back is very pleasant and relaxing, away from the bustle of the Main Street
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of muesli for me and scrambled eggs for my wife. The muesli was a good size serving with bananas and blueberries, a pot of yoghurt and a small jug of milk. The eggs were perfect and served with a slice...More
