Bloke behind the counter could sell ice to the Eskimos. Will look forward to my return. Very pleasant and helpful. Great healthy food. And good sizes. The fruit buns in the oven were making me even hungrier. Coffee was super strong, just the way I...ordered it.More

Seriously don’t know what I did at the Good Loaf to put staff in such a mood. But yeh they sell rolls with a side of eye rolls! Just a simple breakfast order, had a few questions about the menu as I’ve never been before...and got the eye roll response. ☹️More

I am a regular who has been coming here for many years, maybe only once every two weeks, but that adds up to a lot of visits! I both eat in, grab a coffee and buy the bread. The bread Never had a dud loaf....All are lovely. My teenage daughter recommends the cornbread. I love the fruit bread and the rye. I have tried all. They sell off yesterday's loaves at a significant mark down if you buy a loaf of fresh. These are great to toast or freeze. The Good Loaf bread is also available to buy in towns around Bendigo so you don't necessarily have to come into Bendigo. My recommended dish I have eaten other things on the menu, but I love the vegetarian frittata served with a tomato relish in a small side dish and a substantial portion of the salad of the day on the side. I have read some other reviews, and I can only say, man, people can winge. This is a well-balanced meal. The frittata is substantial with lots of pumpkin and spinach with a lovely flavour (it is always fresh and sometimes sold out), the salad is always excellent (different each time) and could come with nuts, quinoa, rice, salad, roast veg and is dressed subtly. It is never salty or overseasoned. The tomato relish is quite sweet but a perfect accompaniment to the frittata. My family and I have had various other meals, and all have not disappointed. I think the food is priced well. The coffee It is consistently very good. Other drinks we have had over the years have all been good. Water bottles and glasses in a fridge are available self-serve. Service Friendly and to the point, especially whilst ordering at the cash register (there is no table service). When food is served, the staff are more friendly, have more time and are less pressured. My main comment would be It is a busy place - staff bake, prepare, serve, clear, clean, etc. and whilst not understaffed, they don't have time to suffer fools gladly. If they have ever gotten anything wrong (v rare), my experience on every occasion is they fix it up without a fuss. The building It is situated in a rustically converted circular tyre repair shop, with lots of concrete around and above. Think 50's America workshop, sort of like a rising UFO. I've not seen that many old workshops like this in Australia, even 50 years ago, and not many are remaining now. This is a bit of Aussie architecture to be retained. An aside - Bendigo Hospital has a Good Loaf too! The Good Loaf has another site at the Bendigo Hospital, which is just as good - it is tucked away near the teaching buildings to the North-East of the main entrance but well worth seeking out if you are there. The seating There is some limited indoor seating, perhaps four tables seating four each and a stand/sitting area for maybe room for three, shared with the available newspapers for customers to read. The outdoor seating is split between that which is open to the elements and a semi-permanent enclosed gazebo. The site is exposed on a good day, it's lovely, but being circular with a very high roof, it can get overly warm, windy, wet, etc. It is never enough to put me and many others off and never so bad that it is genuinely unpleasant. It just is as it is. If the owners put up barriers, it would detract from the simplicity of the building and probably wouldn't work unless it was very substantial. But I'd imagine some would find the seating a challenge. My advice in dealing with it is to grow a bit of backbone and live a little! Parking Almost always free parking on site for 30 mins (the limit on the sign). If you miss out on onsite, there is plenty of metered parking directly outside on the street and only one block away unmetered (a short walk). Cleanliness My only gripe or constructive feedback. I agree with some of the other comments. Whilst clean-ish and adequate, I think the place could do with a regular deep clean and more regular cleaning of tables, the building, windows, walls, flooring, etc. I've worked in hospitality (in the past) and eaten in many places. Changing this would take a concerted cultural shift from the owner/management/staff, but it would be good. I think may increase patronage overall and particularly with the return of some customers. I think I would enjoy the place more if they upped the cleaning too. It hasn't put me off, though. I will be back for more lovely food, made and served by the lovely staff.More

Flintstones. Meet the Flintstones. They're the modern stone age family. From the town of Bedrock, They're a page right out of history. The building reminded me of something and I finally remembered what... in the Flintstones, there is Drive In food shop that Fred orders...a rack of meat from... this is what the building looks like. Anyways, I was digressing ... so onto this place. It is always busy, and I can see why... it's located where you can find car parking in town - which is a rare thing. I only received average service here, but the bread I ordered... a white sour dough was yummy.More

This is a fun place - located in an architectually significant circular concrete building that used to be a Beaurepaire tire place. Indoor and outdoors spaces. Some outdoor spaces have plastic blinds to stop the wind. But we were there on a cool but sunny...Bendigo winter day and sat with the sun on our backs outside, socially distanced of course. Yummy house-made crumpets with honey from their own beehives on the roof. And the Vegie Breaky was amazingly delicious and generous: 2 poached eggs, 2 slices of their yummy soughdough toast, mushrooms, house made spicy beans, spinach. Great value. Good coffee too. It is also a bakery, so you can purchase good quality soughdough bread of all types, muffins and other goodies.More

The service is great and the breakfast is delicious. As advertised, the bread is wonderful. The place has a fun mid-century aesthetic and is suitable for families, or for takeaway coffee and fresh bread. Well worth a visit.

Stopped by here on Saturday the 12th of December, and placed an order for some food. There really wasn’t that much on order, the young lass behind the counter seemed to be too busy talking to a young bloke at the side of the counter...and then realised we were there waiting to be served. She told the young bloke that she had to serve us and would get back to him. We ordered a Breakfast Frittata, a Ham, cheese and Tomato Toastie and another Toastie with only cheese and Tomato. She said it only came with the ham, I told her I didn’t eat meat and could I have one one minus the ham, and requested no butter to be put on the outside of the bread, we asked about the drinks, and were told the cold ones were over in the fridge on the side. There were no prices that we could see for the food and the drinks. We took, 2 lemonades and a Schweppes. I went to pay for the bill and again I reminded her that there was to be no butter to put on the outside of the toastie for the cheese and tomato. She assured me this was noted. Our bill came to $46.80, a rather expensive lunch in my view. We took our table number and went outside, only to find the tables were somewhat dirty and the lass who was cleaning the other tables was chatting with another girl. We didn’t like the first table that we had chosen, as it had a wet spillage on top of it, and chose the second table, which was a bit better than the first. Our order came out about ten mins later. The frittata looked decent, however the chutney was too sweet for the person’s likening, the ham cheese & tomato was average and a skimpy service of salad. The side of the plate which consisted of a few strands of julienne carrots and one or two pieces of rocket which was pulled out of a bag, and the cheese and tomato toastie came out with the Top Layered Buttered, when I had requested twice before hand I did not want this. On checking my docket bill, I noticed that they had charged me for the Ham, when I told them I didn’t eat meat. For two toasties at the price of $10.50 each, I thought was a complete rip off. It worked out to be $15.60 per person for lunch, the only good thing I can say is that the bread was lovely and fresh. Won’t be back here again, as it was an expensive lunch with basic food and the young lass behind the till needs to improve her listening skills if she wants to give good customer service in the future.More

The service was prompt and pleasant. I ordered a vegetable frittata, which came heated up and with a slaw-type salad. Also on the plate was a tomato sauce. As well I ordered a cappuccino. The frittata was fine, and included spinach, pumpkin and feta amongst...other things. There was a bit too much pumpkin, making the whole thing a little too sweet. The salad was good. However the tomato sauce was horribly sweet and cloying, and I left 90% of it - a better alternative would have been a tomato sauce with much less sugar and a touch of chilli. The coffee was fine.More

Four of us stopped here for coffee and we followed it up with lunch. Not a huge menu but enough of a range to choose from. We all enjoyed our meals and I can recommend the egg and bacon frittata, and their hot chocolate. There...is seating inside but alot more outside under cover, all at retro type dining settings....reminded me of the one we had growing up. Toilet inside was clean. Their pumpkin bread/rolls come as a reccomendation from my friend but im yet to try it. We managed a car park right at the front so was handy. Service was very good...we ordered at the counter and our meals were brought to us when ready.More
