The quirky layout and mismatched furniture doesn’t detract from the excellent fare in this cosy Japanese eatery, always popular and not just with Uni students past and present; The staff are friendly and helpful, all ingredients are fresh and served in a from-the-heart home-style of...More

The most authentic, yet fresh and sophisticated Japanese food in Newcastle. They cater for vegetarians extremely well and I love the diversity of the menu. The staff have always been extremely courteous and friendly despite how busy they get. I find it slightly a shame...More

Forgot the sushi and faux Japanese food. Asa-Don is the real things when it comes to soups and home style cooking with the authentic flavours. Friendly and helpful staff and inexpensive to boot. Highly recommended.

If you're looking for an authentic Japanese culinary experience and not just some cringeworthy Sushi-Train production line then Asa-Don is the place to go. This quirky restaurant in its narrow little hideaway always seems to be busy and there's a good reason for that, it's...More

This place comes across as a little disorganised - different table and chairs throughout etc - but the food is good and has a nice variety.

Lunch visit. Ever charming staff. Tempura udon never fails to please. Grab a table in the courtyard if you can. Less 'confined'.
