We walked around town looking at all the restaurants and in the end the only place that looked reputable was the fat duck! We weren't expecting much, but it turned out to be an amazing place for dinner. The staff were very nice and caring. As for the food it was exceptional!!!! The only thing that disappointed us was the... More

My party of 7 people ate here and all enjoyed their food, with the exception of me. In fairness their food did look good. I ordered goats cheese tart and what I got was anything but! Can't Recommend it. The waitress response to my practically uneaten plate of food was indifference.

Had a party of 4 this evening & welcomed courteously, drinks and food order promptly taken. Two choices of wine - 1 arrived incorrectly despite the order being rechecked. Starters well presented & tasty. Mains a minor disaster - order of 3 fish & chip supper and 1 venison shank. Only 2 fish & chips arrived and the venison was... More

Best thing about this restaurant was the service which was very friendly. The food was average and not good value for money. Portions far too big and my Moroccan salad was far from Moroccan with lots of leaves and pretty tasteless chicken. The venison was ok but again far too big and lacking in vegetables. Would not recommend if you... More

Although they were very busy, they seated our group of six when we showed up without a reservation. Service was a little slow, but they were super busy, so we weren't upset by that. All the meals were excellent--the salmon, venison, Moroccan chicken salad and lamb salad--both presentation and taste. Our server was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinners!... More

I was only in Te Anau a couple of nights, as a solo traveler. Not going to mention names, but there is a seemingly popular restaurant across the street that needs to learn a few things from The Fat Duck. First of all, the Happy Hour specials with $5 draft beer can't be beat. Same beer across the street is... More

We had booked a table which wasn't ready when we arrived. The service was pretty slow, but luckily we weren't in a hurry. Not a very extensive menu. The food was OK but pricey for what it was.

Plenty of good choices of food and wine on the menu. Good friendly and attentive service. Outdoor seating when the weather allows. Clearly a local favourite, which is always a good sign. Modern decor with a smart and northern Southland feel to it with views to the mountains. The place was full and buzzing, and we were lucky to get... More
