Unfortunately most of what food we selected from the menu was unavailable. Not a good start. Finally we selected adamame beans as an entree and salmon as a main. The latter was served with salad and rice and miso soup. The beans were well cooked and tasty but the actual pods varied from 1-3 beans inside so were not of... More

The best sushi in town. The bento box is always good if you are wanting a little more than just sushi. Always made fresh.

Went in for dinner at 7pm, their sign said they close at 8pm. After waiting ages to be served, we're told we couldn't have a dine-in dinner but they could do takeaways. Why bother having closing times if your going to close whenever you want.

I have been popping in for the last couple of years as a treat for my daughter who loves Japanese food. The interior really needs tidied up. Service has slipped and are now not very accommodating for slight menu alterations. Recently the rice has either been dry or gluggy. The tempura veges were the thinnest of slices with a thick... My colleague and I were looking for a place to have tea and finally selected Bonsai after searching around some other possible choices of different cuisines in the area. At first I didn't recognize the place but after a while it dawned on me that some 30 to 40 years ago when I lived in Southland the premises had been... More

There are certainly good and bad points about Bonsai Restaurant. We'll start off with the bad: no space to move or even sit down to eat without being bumped into, the staff look like they want to be elsewhere, and the decor is ghastly. But the food is good and I recommend the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box. I do find... More

whilst John Cleese nailed Palmerston North, if you ever want to put someone off Japanese cuisine, bring them here! Misappropriate description of wines abounds too, Mount Difficulty turns out to be Roaring Meg, the screaming ho at Bardot prices!

My partner and I went for lunch recently at this restaurant in Invercargill. Started off badly with the person taking my order at the counter trying to overcharge me. Then when our lunch arrived the food was greasy and lukewarm, the rice was cold and sticky, they forgot our Miso soup until we reminded them. Maybe it was the normal... More

Alright been there last Thursday Walked in the shop saw heaps of flies on the roof lol oh my gosh can't believe a sushi place having such an unhygienic environment. Service is absolutely nasty, there was a lady being so rude to me and my husband. Don't go there guys, there are some way better Japanese place in town.
