We were very surprised by the quality and the food and the service and the attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes. We were so happy after the first dinner that we repeated again the following night. Try the seafood hotpot (extremely good value for a restaurant of this standard -20 NZ dollars) or the whole fish (my... More

Start of by saying the service was excellent. The food was also good, I especially liked the whitebait. The main criticism is that the chef seems to be obsessed by putting spiced peanuts into every dish - why?? The decor and atmosphere was good, and whilst not cheap it was not stupidly priced. Definitely worth going to.

If you want plain and boring - this is not the place for you. We had white bait and scallops for entrée, very tasty. For main, the steak was cooked perfectly and fish of the day was cooked to perfection. This food is flavour, flavour, flavour!! The pear and rocket salad was superb with the seasoning just perfect. Presentation was... More

We had bluff oysters, thai inspired greens salad, scallops, salmon with soy-kimchee salad, and the Marlborough Hot Pot (shellfish, salmon, and cod in saffron broth) and EVERYTHING was cooked perfectly. Delicious from start to finish. We were shocked that the bill was less than 100 dollars. Would have gladly paid another $50 for the quality and amount of food we... More

We have been dining at this restaurant for 10 years and although we read that it had recently changed hands we decided to go last night. What a mistake it was awful. There were only six other people in there but it took half an hour to produce a portion of Garlic Bread and some scallops, Both of which were... More

I had a starter of scallops on a puree of cauliflower in a Pernod sauce. The scallops were perfectly done, but I found the Pernod sauce bitter, however, my husband tried it and liked it. He had steak tartare for his entree and it looked delicious. We each had wild boar with calvados jus, lardons, currants and almonds for our... More

Given the reputation of the chef, we were somewhat disappointed in our visit just before Chrismas. Although our starters were excellent -- the duck liver pate and sautéed scallops -- our main dishes -- both the lamb loin -- were nothing special, and the "legumes roti" were definitely not roasted and quite ordinary. Service was also not particularly strong.

My husband and I went to d'Urvilles for our wedding anniversary and found it to be the perfect location for a special occasion meal. There is a good selection to choose from and all food served was of an excellent quality. The staff were professional and attentive and made sure that our special occasion was celebrated in style.

Marlborough restaurants are consistently inconsistent - except for this one - perhaps a little too formal but if you want good food (and are prepared to pay for it) you will not be let down if you eat here - our favorite Marlborough restaurant if we entertain people from out of town or have a personal celebration

Had 2 starters instead of a main and, though small, were perfectly adequate and very nice. As a solo traveller, made to feel very welcome
