We stayed in the hotel and ate here every meal! The staff were very attentive and friendly, even remembering what my husband had the day before for breakfast and if he would the same again?!!! I loved the Garlic Bread which was crusty, home-made in-house and simply delicious. I tried to eat something different every night and was never disappointed,... More

Great bar service set in a comfortable atmosphere. Nice as a pre-dinner drink stop, or a lively place for a nightcap.

We are here, and the food was delicious! Succulent, melt in your mouth lamb. Unfortunately my lamb on the lamb duo ending up being half fat, and my rack was in places almost raw. The waitress was friendly but she was quite abrupt and never asked how our meals were going or were. It almost seemed as though she was... More

We were staying at the hotel and had a hamburger in the Portlander when too tired to go out...great burger, average chips.

Hi Kath, We're very sorry to have served you an average serving of shoestrings, that's not what were about at all! The Cheeseburger usually comes with shoestrings, I suggest maybe next time to request to have yours with the hand cut fries - you may enjoy those more. Thanks for the review. Rhiannon More

Beautiful food severed by some very pleasant and friendly staff. The steak was so tender. Was in no hurry to leave.

Staying at Rydges and ate at Portlander, excellent service from Hannah and Alex on a very busy night. The food was very good, although a little on the expensive side but the service made up for that, it was attentive without being intrusive. Yes we recommend Portlander but would suggest you book from 8pm for a weekend night and ask... More

Good eye fillet steak, nice garlic mashed and rocket salad. Try horseradish sauce for steak! $150 for two people: mains, one entree to share and wine

Friendly, professional staff and relaxed dining. The night was busy but staff were efficient and knowledgeable. The steaks here are first class and cooked with understanding. They're complemented with a large selection of wines. We visit here each time we go to Wellington, usually every year or so and over the past 4 years the standard has stayed consistently high.

We don't usually enjoy hotel restaurants but were so tired from our flights that we opted to dine in and enjoyed it so much we had dinner there again the following night. Both meals were delicious. We had the same efficient waitress both nights, it was a bit disconcerting to hear her Georgia accent on our first night in New... More

Very very good. This was our last night in NZ before flying home. The food and service was exceptionally good as was the friendly staff who offered advice regarding some of the dishes. The Creme Brûlée was the best we have had!

In a relaxing and friendly environment we invite our guests to revel in all the freshness and goodness our little slice of the world provides. PORTLANDER Nestled in a spot where land meets sea, the Portlander is a unique take on the grill house concept - one which is local, seasonal, cultivated... and just a little bit wild. We're about superb cuts of meat, prepared to perfection and finished in style. Bloody rare and rather well done - it's the ideal place to eat meat and greet. PORTLANDER is the proud winner of 'BEST RESTAURANT' at the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence 2015
