Very reasonably priced restaurant. We tried bread and dips, and it was soooo good. salmon, cheeses, a very nice vinegar served with olive oil. toasted breads. pickles, sausages. 38 nzd, but it makes 18 nzd per person which is nothing. I want to remember Emerald with its restaurant.

We were staying at the Emerald Hotel where Nick's bistro is situated. We had breakfast there on our first morning and it was a disgrace. We were the only ones in there (and I can see why). During the remainder of our stay,we did not visit the restaurant and whenever we passed the restaurant it was empty or had only... More

I enjoyed having all my meals by the pool area. Good selection of options on the menu for all meals. Didn't have to wait long for meals ordered. Only wait was at breakfast with the toaster taking so long.

Coffee was cold and there was hardly any food left by 9am. Breakfast was supposed to be included in our room but we were charged $74 for it (Emerald Hotels issue). If we had known that we would have gone somewhere else.

Nice food but expensive. More variety would be lovely - and even an option of buffet breakfast. Seafood dishes were nice, would be great to have listed vegetarian options as there are none on the menu.

Good menu options and quality food. Presentation was great and taste was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. We were super hungry after a 5 hour drive then 2 hour meeting and so ordered sides with our mains - big portions, so we had a ridiculous amount of food on our table. It was all beautiful. We retired to... More

Based on the lower levels of the Emerald Hotel in Gisborne, Nicks Bistro is one of the better restaurants in Gisborne, not quite fine dining but more of a casual/upper class dine. Spacious dining area, clean tidy and comfortable. The staff stunning......and extremely helpful. I had the hot salmon with seasonal veg and it was literally melt in your mouth,... More

Worst place in Gisborne. We met with another couple thiking we would just have dinner there and when we asked for wine off the list they didn't seem to have any in stock. We started with an entree which was very average and called it quits after that!

Description
Chef Stephan Kellermann couldn't believe his luck when he moved to the East Coast where fresh produce, kai moana (seafood), various meats and award-winning wine is all on his doorstep.
The bistro is named for Young Nick - Captain James Cook's cabin boy who, legend has it, was the first to spot the white cliffs in Poverty Bay that were named in his honour.
Stephan combines his traditional German ingenuity with a regional Kiwi kitchen that features the very best food and wine on offer.
A daily blackboard menu reflects what is in season. Nick's Burgers is a great hit with all where you can build your own burger to your tastes.
