Found this strange place in Postal Lane off Bourke St in Melbourne city. It's basically made up of tables & chairs in the actual laneway. Seemed a bit odd, but the food is magnificent! The service is very quick & the waitresses are very efficient & jovial. We shared an entre of beetroot & watermelon salad - sounds odd, but... More

We were excited to return to this restaurant but we were soon thinking our decision to return. Service was slow due to staff busy chatting to each other. We ordered the grilled veggies for entree which is advertised as a share plate so we thought this would be good as there was only the two of us. The meal arrived... More

Well, we had just done a little shopping at H&M and decided a wine was in order, as it is right next door and I hadn't been before, we thought now would be an opportune time. Firstly, the staff, attentive but not annoyingly so and very charming. They also had a good knowledge of wine, which is fantastic. The weather... More

We had dinner with no booking. We ordered pasta and pizza. Food serving were generous and delicious. There's only one missing- smile from the staff and friendliness.

Lovely to be back in Melbourne enjoying a divine Spaghetti Carbonara at Ca de Vin restaurant in the laneway next door to the old GPO building in Melbourne. Now this is true Carbonara aka made with egg not cream. Ca deVin has a good wine list and sufficient variety in their food menu to satisfy all tastes whether it be... More

Found this restaurant by chance and decided to go for a early dinner at 6pm so there was no problems getting a table. Lots of good choices on the menu, I went for the calamari main and was probably the best calamari I have ever had I love the setting and the nice touch of the cold water steam that... More

This place is a little hidden gem, in the lane right next door to Myer in Bourke St. Lots of different meal selections Steak, Pizza, Fish, Risotto, pasta and a nicely rounded Wine list. My cousin and I greatly enjoyed our Specials yesterday. Beautifully cooked Barramundi, grilled with Olive oil & thin rings of Radish served on Silverbeet! Yum! Light,... More

We ate here 3 times on our recent trip. Every meal was great- we had risotto one time, the pizza another and a gorgeous agnolotti pasta another. All meals served quickly and hot. Only gripe was some of the younger staff seemed more keen on playing about than working and hid in the corner we were sitting and took pics... More

Stopped in on a Monday night for an early dinner. Nice range of meals on the menu. Pastas, Pizzas and a nice selection of mains. Watching meals come out to other tables made it difficult to choose as they all looked good. Our table had the lamb skewers, salmon skewers and a pasta. Everyone cleaned their plates. Not sure if... Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
