We are both fans of MasterChef Australia and from Northern Ireland, and so when we planned our retirement trip to Australia we looked up the Press Club. We made our booking and in time the evening arrived. It is small and intimate with booth style seating but looks a lot bigger in pictures due to mirrors. We were greeted by... More

We enjoyed the 6 course lunch degustation, all dishes were brought out promptly and all dishes were very tasty with alot of flavours and textures. I think my favourite dishes were the wagyu dish, chicken dish and the dessert was devine. As someone who is not a huge seafood lover i was suprised i enjoyed the mussels they were cooked... More

I wish we could afford to go more often but The Press Club is a special occasion restaurant that never fails to deliver, we had the 8 course degustation that was a photo opportunity at every course but the tastes were bliss. The whole dining experience was a journey of ooh's and ahh's with a promise to return soon.

I was looking forward to the Press Room having enjoyed the Hellenic Club, but was not terribly impressed by the experience. The decor is fabulous - its a lovely space - and clearly much has been spent on the fit out. The dishes, however, seemed to be more style than substance in many instances. The deconstructed moussaka was just not... More

We ate here to celebrate a big birthday. We had the four course option and it was all really nice. The food was tasty and four courses were a good amount of food. The waiter made us a special mocktail to celebrate (we had to go back to work...) The decor is a bit 60s in some ways but not... More

I find it difficult to write anything possitive about our experience at The Press Club for lunch this week. I had decided that restaurant week provided a good opportunity to try out a place that I had been interested in visiting for some time - well before any of the adverse publicity that has been in the recent news. We... More

Our evening at the press club was an experience from end to end. The brilliant cocktails to start, through the innovative and sometimes hilarious courses, and desserts to die for. My wife and I couldn't remember such a perfectly curated experience, with impeccable, sensitive service throughout, where every single bite was a taste revelation. Stunning.

We were invited by friends and glad we did not take visitors as the performance was ridiculous. 30 mins after 2 pm sitting we still only had water. Outrageous upsell of cocktails did not work, then we were offered mussells, beef and chocolate - choice of 2 for $40. No choice, no menu. Very over the top acting performance of... More

We absolutely loved the Press Club it was the highlight of our Melbourne visit. We ordered the four course degustation menu which was basically innovative, creative, sophisticated, & delicious giving us the ultimate fine dining experience. The Press Club will always be on our hand picked best restaurants of the world list.

George Calombaris' flagship Melbourne restaurant for MAdE Establishment has cemented itself on the global dining scene with its unique Modern Greek cuisine. In October 2006, the four directors joined together to form MAdE Establishment, and opened their first venue, The Press Club Restaurant and Bar. This began a new era for George Calombaris and cemented his place as a culinary star for his Modern Greek Cuisine - never seen before Melbourne; where modern twists to traditional Greek cuisine has put this restaurant on the global map and has diner's wanting more. The Press Club seats 38 guests in individual booths. Next door to The Press Club at 52 Flinders Street, is Press Club - Projects, George Calombaris' creative and development kitchen. This space can be booked privately for up to 8 guests and offers a completely interactive experience as the chefs experiment with new dishes to make the menu in The Press Club.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
