A great evening with my wife. What I really like is the many options for share dishes that are full of flavour and whilst you sit at long tables it still has more than enough privacy and has a fantastic buzz about the place. Stick to the share dishes and try a lot of them. Our waitress was knowledgeable and... More

Popped in for dinner with my Hubby on. Friday evening. You can't book for small tables so we arrived early and had a drink to pass time as we wanted to get a table but also wanted to avoid eating too early. The staff were only too happy to oblige and gave us the last spot for two before a... More

We are new to Melbourne after moving from London in December and are just finding our feet with the best places to eat. We started off our night heading to Chin Chin after a recommendation from a friend. This was at 8pm on Friday night and we found people were waiting to get in and there was a 90-120 minute... More

I have visited Longrain twice and both times were brilliant! The staff are very friendly and the menu caters for most dietary needs. The first visit we had a friend that couldn't eat foods with fructose and the chefs did their best to cater for her. Second time I visited, all my family were Vegetarian, so we all ordered the... Our teenagers and selves loved the freshness of a broad range of food. Whole fish, pork, duck, greens and herbs spices and lots of chilli. Loved every mouthful. We were greeted warmly even in our travelling clothes. Decor is modern and shared bench tables give enough privacy between groups. Our waiter was attentive gave great suggestions and looked after us... More

Easy to see why Longrain has stayed the course and the test of time with imaginative food, good service and constant attention to detail ensuring happy customers.. On a midweek night the place was buzzing; always a good sign. I tried their betel leaf bites, filled eggnet with pork, prawns, peanuts & caramelised coconut, which is a signature dish; Superb... We had a table of 11 for the banquet. It was $65 per head. We had a large round table which was great. There is enough space around the table for us to move around. The food was outstanding, very tasty and just the right quantity. The dessert of coconut I could have done without, but I don't like coconut.... More

This is my favourite Thai fusion restaurant in Melbourne. I've tried many dishes here and their freshly shucked Oysters is my favourite. I've tried many of their starters, mains as well as desserts and have not been dissatisfied with any of my choices to date! The taste is so crisp and fresh and never overpowering with sauces. Cocktails are great... More

We originally were going to Lucy Lui's but when we arrived was told 45 mins wait, so headed for Longrain as was recommended by a friend and hoping for a shorter wait as they don't taking booking for groups under 6, arrived and was offered a communal table or seat at the bar which we chose. What a great find,... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
