Found this place tucked away from main street but close enough to CBD. Genuine German food and atmosphere, great service. Nice selection of schnapps available.

My friends and I went here to re-live our recent experiences at the Munich Hofbräuhaus. It didn't disappoint! Yes, it's never going to be the same, but as far as the Aussie version goes, we had a blast! The staff were great, the atmosphere too, but best of all, the food and beer was just as good as what we... More

Went for dinner.. great food, generous serves indeed and the atmosphere is fantastic. Music is fairly loud so our 3yr old wasn't impressed but that's ok. Staff were friendly and quick with drinks and food. Great night.

Very busy Thursday night, walked in with no booking and one table left. Yay. Very prompt and efficient waiter. He had a great sense of humour very welcoming. Ordered the platter for two with schnitzels and sausages, mushroom. Schnitzels just melted in your mouth, not that crazy about their sausages. Garlic bread is just totally awesome, not your usual run... More

This place superb! Positives: 1. It's a place where you can escape from the CBD whilst in the CBD. You can either sit and read or mingle with friends. It's a friendly, warm atmosphere. 2. Beer and Schnapps available. Great range at reasonable prices. 3. Staff were lovely and friendly. 4. The food. So bloody good. For what you pay,... More

Hi there michelle, thanks so much for taking the time to submit your feedback. The area you mention is the Bier Hall - it is a fantastic space for larger parties and the weekends are a great time to see the area being enjoyed by larger parties getting into the spirit with the band. You are correct, the upstairs is... More

I loved this place! The staff were kind, accomodating and hilarious.. They are great at everything from service to food! The bier is fantastic with a wide range and the food is even better! The schnitzel beat me as it was huge however I am no quitter and will definitely be back for round 2!

Incredibly rude and inhospitable service. We were not waited on at the bar and the barmaid was horribly rude. The host at the restaurant was not nice either. We were treated with contempt. Both outlets were empty at 1700 on New Year's Eve. Clearly not a friendly place. Can't help but wonder if they were being discriminatory, they obviously did... More

What a find! We were so impressed with food, service and price. We could not get into our fav dumpling place so reluctantly we came here. How good could a German restaurant be in the middle of China Town?! Very good! My husband is Swiss German so he was extra cautious. We cannot fault anything on our visit. Food was... More

I always try to get to the Hofbrauhaus once a year. It is always very good, do pass up the opportunity to get the pork knuckle, it is excellent. Last time we got the HB Deluxe Plate, it was extream! Great range of alcohol-free beer is great free options. Not to be missed!

End of year Christmas function for 14 booked well in advance. At the last minute one of our party had a bad fall, injured her knee, couldn't walk, so couldn't attend. She still had to pay the full $50 even though we offered medical proof. When we arrived I discovered that the booking had been changed to 13 rather than... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
