Great if you want poor service long waits and cold coffee. Not sure how you survive in Melbourne. Food options are very limited, go to Dr Graves st or maccas if you want a better experience.

Visited on a Saturday morning for brunch. Super busy place so recommend to get there early if more than two people. Got a table fairly quickly after popping in then out and back in 5 minutes later. Had one of the specials of poached eggs,...More

A mid-day eatery bespeaking the commercial enterprise it once was, serves dinner ONLY on Friday nights! It has a limited menu and an adequate wine selection. Some of the tables seat eight, and are therefore "shared" with other patrons, and then there are "high" tables...More

Nice enough food and a quirky setting. It was averagely busy when we went in and we soon found a table. The menu isn't huge but what you'd expect from such a place. Only three stars thanks to the rude attitude of the Canadian waitress!

The seating and tables are very simple and basic. No plush leather or cushioned seats, just wooden seats and tables and some stools and bench. However you are not here for the decor bu for the food. The daily menu is always changing. I had...More

Great little space, food is pretty good and coffee was fabulous. Love the chairs and the high ceilings. Look hard as it's pretty easy to miss

The Journal Cafe is located at the front of the Council for Adult Education (CAE) building and the City Library. It's a good spot for a coffee. I had an iced coffee wish ice-cream and a Portuguese tart, known as a "dan ta" in Asia,...More

The place has a nice vibe and looks great, coffee was ok and the food average. If you're not fussed then it's fine but I wouldn't go back

Happened across this cafe this week and it was packed with local workers looking for presumably, great coffee. This place has a great vibe, lovely efficient staff in my experience and to top it off, such great coffee I had to buy a bag to...More

Is it mandatory to wear gloves during food preparation ? I was quite put off when an employee looked up from sandwich making, took my coins for a coffee, then straight back to the food! No gloves, no washing in between coins and picking up...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
